Skoda Yeti 110bhp ECU remap

Hi I was thinking about increasing the power from a Yeti 110bhp diesel (theoretically of course!) and came accross an engine ECU remap chip. It is advertised as plug and play (I.e. No wire cutting). Has anyone had experience of using this or anything similar? It promises to increase the power of the 110bhp diesel to 132 (150 max)bhp. Interesting if it works!

I would have thought you would be better lokking at one of the known quality ones mentioned elsewhere on this Forum.

My Brother had his Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI CR DPF (110bhp) remapped to 145bhp I believe. So their are a few remapping companys who can tune this same engine used in the Yeti.

Bought a plug and play until for a VW diesel not that many years back and it worked a treat, both mpg and power was up by a lot. I did not dyno it but I guess from about 105 bhp it felt like 120 bhp-ish. Couple of words of warning though, when fitted the VW did pump out a lof of smoke although oil lever remained good and a friend bought one and felt no difference at all, he then unscrewed the unitil to find it completely empty !

The best way I guess is to get the ECU remapped from a reputable place, but the plug and play worked for me. East to fit and unfit btw.

Just a word of caution. The Yeti Diesel engines all have DPF - I doubt the plug-and-play remaps will do the DPF much good!

Extra power and a plugged DPF does not sound like a very good idea.

I was after a plug and play as I wouldn't want to permanently change the car and it should be easily reversible. Not sure on the effect on the DPF as Agerbundsen pointed out. I have anecdotal evidence that this clogs through slow city style driving. Why would a remap (chip) affect it?

The current engine management, I assume, is very finely tuned to control both fuel delivery, boost and EGR as well as checking when the DPF needs to be cleaned by increasing the exhaust temperature and maybe adding a small amount of excess fuel to burn off the carbon that has accumulated.

My expectation is that a plug-in remapping will not take this into account, certainly not an older one.

I could well be wrong, but the experiment could be expensive. It is also a moot point in my case, as normally, I have much more torque and power from the 170 than I know what to do with. On the bahn, it does come in handy, though :p

There are several on the market now that are designed for common rail engines with DPF's.

I have seen one company that will remap upto 195bhp!

Most tuning boxes seem to advertise about 30bhp increase.

The ones I have been looking at are:

Spider

Speedhawk

DTUK

Superchips

Celtic tuning

Not all of these list the CR140 engine in Yeti guise, but they do offer the VW CR140 engine, so should be able to deal with the Yeti.

Those that don't mention the Yeti have an email in their inbox.

Currently I favour the Spider as it seems to be the latest technology and is adaptive, but I'm open to suggestions. The issues that have been mentioned before about the differences between remaps and decent tuning boxes, as far as I can tell are negligible now.

Then sold the car last August and bought a Freelander 1.

Race chip or tech fitted to 110for 3 yrs no probs so far,do a search on race chip or race tech, german outfit, price around or below 150

Who do you insure with once you have tuned your vehicle?

I spoke to the underwriters of CIS and they said they NEVER insure tuned cars,

as did several other "ordinary insurers"

I have found no one that just increases the premium 10% or whatever.

I tow a caravan and would like to go up from 110ps to 140ps more for extra torque
