Wishbone Bushes

Featured Replies

One of the wishbone bushes has worn out on the Golf and I have been told that you cannot buy the rubber bushes on their own and that a whole new wishbone is required and therefore going to be more expensive! I was thinking therefore that I would just get some polyurethane ones put in, such as Powerflex or Superpro. Am I likely to actually find any difference over the standard bushes? Do I need to tell my insurance company? I have heard that Powerflex ones are prone to failure and that Superpro ones are better. Does anyone have any opinions on this subject?

Awesome GTI do the Cupra Powerflex bushes, thinking of having them put on my Fabia Vrs as my originals are worn out, would be very interested to find out if they are a declarable mod! :wonder:

Just spoke to Chris Knott today, and they said Zurich, my underwriters were fine with me having Powerflex bushesm they don't count as a mod, unlike lowering my car etc!

IMHO I'd not go with Poly bushes, but that was based on the fact that they don't have the same characteristics which enable the OEM bush to work as intended.

The whole wishbone is usually cheaper than changing just the bushes anyway, so it might be worth picking up two good quality wishbones with solid bushes in.

Thanks Mark. I'll see if I can hold of a couple. I presume I would have to change both sides knowing my luck!

I guess it depends what you want from the car. For best handling I'd say yes as then both sides will have new bushes in .

Try GSF or if you know somebody with a TPS account you could see how much genuine ones are.

If you go after market, get the better quality ones rather than the cheapest ones, as somebody had a real issue with some from ECP on here, but I believe they were the cheap versions.

Funny you say that, im thinking of getting rid of my poly ones, just seem to harsh and going back to oem ones. :S

Just had the Cupra and Powerflex bushes put on the front, thanks Awesome!!

Car feels more sure footed and better at dealing with the plethora of potholes that now populate Manchester! :smirk:

Are they??? I have no idea TBH, I just assumed that they were the same! DOH! I was thinking about the TT or Cupra R bushes instead of standard ones as I have read good things about them, but I assume that these may not fit then?

TT Solids should work on a Golf as a MK I TT is in essence a MK 4 Golf.

Er, not fail, was offering my opinion on the effect of the change from the norm to solid bushes, to help SCVRS make up his mind, I am aware the Golf and Fabia bushes might not show they same characteristics having this change, just a generalisation.
