Electric fault...? Advice needed.

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have had a problem for a few months.

When the engine runs in idle, the light in the infodisplay in the dashboard flicker very vaguely. When I then turn the steering wheel, it seems like the electric power drops and the headlights briefly dampen.....?

I was thinking altenator or a charging relay?

Anynone with a good idea what this problem could be?

I think the fact that as soon as you 'turn the steering wheel' maybe a clue.

Bad connection in the wiring loom from steering wheel column?

Nutz, could well be a charging issue...alternator, regulator etc, even a battery condition or connection problem. Check battery connections and make sure battery is a good one, no dry cells. Also eliminate a slipping alternator belt. Turning the steering wheel places a load on the electrics and could make the belt slip if not tensioned correctly. After that, if still no joy, get the alternator regulator checked. This lives on the end of the alternator and is easy to replace if needed, as is the alternator.
