Auto tranny oil?

Featured Replies

Hello again,

my superb has a full dealer service history but no won 75k I do not see any evidence of the auto tranny oil ever been changed. The handbook does not specify grade requirements or indeed volume required. Can anyone throw some light on this please? Also what about the filter for the tranny oil, is this something that I should change? I know Audis are renowned for auto box failures (with full man dealer s.hist!) at 120k as this is an item that never gets changed... and in fact people who maintain their own cars (and know a bit about them) with regular ATF changes make them last a L O T longer. Any advice would be really appreciated! When I sold my peugeot 605 auto diesel at 150k it was still on its original box (changed the fluid every 20k). :smirk:

It's good practice to have it serviced, iirc it's about £180 at an indy to have the oil and filter changed, also when the sump is off they can evaluate the swarf on the magnet and give you an idea of the box condition overall.

Get it changed for sure.

An extra change won't hurt it, but a lack of change will do.

ZF Transmissions recommend changing oil in auto boxes every 50_000 miles. Need anyone say more?

I had mine changed by Dealer last November - the car was 4 yrs old and had done 30,000 miles. They also changed the filter which is a must. Even though they said it was sealed for life I insisted that it be changed. When I collected the car they said it was a good idea to change the oil as it was BROWN not RED.

now this has made my day... booked it at the main skoda dealer for a very reasonable £121, and I've asked twice for them to confirm that includes oil and filter and they said yes. A local indy quoted £240.
