Brand new car - is it worth claying before sealant & wax is applied?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, a quick query as per the title really.

Im due to take delivery of my third Skoda - a Steel Grey metallic Yeti and Im keen to be the one that does the initial paint work protection (I'd also resent paying the dealer £300 for the rushed pleasure!).

I had in mind giving it a snow foam, a good wash (using two buckets with guards and mitts etc), using carlack sealant and then come Colinite wax.

First question is does the above sound about right or am I missing something between the sealant and the wax?

Secondly, is it worth claying the car before I seal it? Its factory fresh so shouldnt have road contaminents in as such but something makes me think I'd be surprised if I did do it as to what came off!

Any advice would be greatfully received.

Thanks,

Lee

it wouldnt do any harm to clay the car, you,ll be suprised how much you get off.

foam,wash,clay,polish,seal then wax

It may be factory fresh, but its still been transported by rail and road to get to you. I clayed mine before I sealed it and my nice white clay was a "buff" colour when I had finished each panel, so worth doing.

My Mazda was astonishingly immaculate when Baker21 detailed it, no swirls, and no contamination.

See what the paint looks like when you get it. I'd also recommend washing it again after claying. :)

Great info, thanks guys. :)

Claying the car will be well worth the effort, just ensure that you have a lightly aggressive clay as you don't want to add any marring into the paintwork............

Would recommend a wash after claying as stated by Tom_vRS..............
