Anyone tried Autosocks?

I came across this site when I was looking for new tyres and I wondered if anyone had experience of these and whether they might help given the problems with fitting snow chains to the front wheels of the Elegance Yeti?

Are you talking in particular about fitting them to a YETI or cars in general, Stewart? I have bought two sets for my YETI but by the time I got them the snow had gone... certainly shouldn't be a problem clearance-wise which is thought to be the issue with snow chains.

A very polite request to the mods (don't want to start any type of power struggle again...) - was it not possible to keep this thread in the YETI forum as I think the OP was meaning it to be YETI specific.

I would certainly be interested because my sole reason for researching a new car,and arriving at the YETI was because of the snow this last winter. If anyone has any experience of these "YETI-hose" please let us know. They'd be cheaper that snow-chains on the back...

Years ago I had a Golf GTi and bought a set of what could best be described as "grippers" that clamped over the tyre and thereby provided a ridge every quarter turn. Never had to use them, so can't comment on their efficacy. Perhaps I shoulda dug 'em out recently.

Anyhow, back ON topic - Autosocks for YETI anyone??

Yes, I was talking specifically about fitting them to the Yeti Aerofurb. It seems like a fairly neat and relatively cheap solution to getting moving if you have summer tyres on and need a bit more grip. I kive at the end of a dirt track and have to travel about half a mile to get to a road that might have been gritted and it's been an issue getting out this winter. The weather forecasters are talking about more snow this week so you might get a chance to try them out.

Thanx, I was a bit puzzled when I saw the topic had been moved but I did a forum search this morning and found it.

I have the Multi-grip snow socks and they worked a treat on the MX-5 to the point of making it more useable than a front wheel drive car in the recent snow

I've used Autosocks for the past 4 years, firstly on a Honda FRV and for the last 3 on a VW Passat. They're great and I would recommend anyone to have them in the boot.

There is a school of thought that suggests they may meet the requirements to have chains in the car on certain alpine roads.

Have a look at the Autosocks website for a short movie.
