Featured Replies

Hi, all i have a 2006 superb 2.5 v6 Tdi, I have read alot re: Pd engines and in particular the dpf failing ect... Is my 2.5 a pd??? Is there anything i should replace as a preventitive measure or any common faults? I had a full service at my local garage and it a timing belt apro 5k ago...

I have only had the car just over a week so want to keeping it running in tip top condition, Oh by the way it it's a tip gearbox. I done a quick search but couln't find much about the 2.5... Thanks for all you help in advance. Dan

Hello

The 2.5 TDi in your car is not a PD engine, nor does it have a dpf, so no need to worry about that.

Others will be able to advise further better on common faults.

Phil.

Hello Phil and welcome!

I too have a 2.5 tiptronic.

I am also relatively new to the ownership experience, but something that I have picked up (as I also intend on keeping my car in tip-top condition) is:

1. have the auto box oil and filter changed asap. This is usually neglected. My dealer is charging me £120 for this job, independent quoted £240, other guys here reckon £180 is the norm. Beware that the oil requirement for the auto box is very special, not the usual Dextron ATF but a special VW/Audi/Skoda oil which is approx £12-15 per litre.

2. The engine needs special VW/Audi/Skoda oil. I believe both 506.00 and 507.00 specification is accepted. If your car is serviced per "long life" schedule (up to 20 k miles between services) it is important you top up with the same oil as the service fill, and this will be 507.00 spec I believe (506.00 is regular fixed interval oil I think).

3. These engines do burn a bit of oil, so carry a litre of the right oil with you and check every fortnight

4. Check CV boots, they tend to split on this model perhaps a bit more regularly than on most VAG models

5. Do check your pollen filter housing and the grommet for sealing and cleanliness to avoid a flood in your footwell which is a major issue on several VAG family models including the Superb. Do a search here on the forum for instructions on how to do this.

I think this just about summarises most issues, but some of the guys might like to add to this :|

This engine does not need the 507 engine oil as this was recommended for the PD engines not the V6 which is an old engine. However it should not do it any harm. Wasted expense though!

Regular oil change on any engine will increase life compared with leaving it to the VAG long life servicing.

Nah you definatly dont need 507. I use 505 spec (9 quid for 4 litres of Quantum from TPS) TPS are owned by VW. Can do an entire oil change for less tthan 20 quid including filter and a new sump plug. This is on the fixed servicing schedule though, you may be told to use something else on a variable service. The oil I use on fixed service from TPS for £9 costs about £30 for EXACTLY the same stuff from a standard VW parts desk I have been to.

Ive read horror storys about the 2.5, but ive done 24k in mine now (now on 72k) of aggresive driving and it seems to be ok. I do do at least 65 miles a day though.

Timing belt change can be pricey, but you have already had this done and allegedly lasts 80k miles

Other than that I have not had any issues specifically related to this engine altough I have had a snapped coil spring on the front, CV joint replaced, cv boot replaced, and parking sensors are dead... another common fault. Oh and car had water ingress problem when I bought it but got that fixed under warranty

Dont want to put you off, I still think my Superb is the best car ive owned.

I see you are based in Durham. I work in Durham so may see you round
