Yet another oil question

Featured Replies

I changed the oil in my 110tdi (non-PD) yesterday. The owners manual suggested either 506.00 for variable or 505.00 for fixed intervals. Looking at the Castrol Edge oils in Halfords yesterday, the 0w-30 met the 505.00 specification hence I used that in the oil change (as my car is now on fixed intervals). However, the threads I've managed to find through the searches on here seem to be suggesting 5w30 or even 5w-40. :S Have I just wasted £45 on the wrong oil?

Cheers. :)

Bumpy. :) Due to be doing quite a bit of driving tomorrow so I could do with knowing if it'll be OK or not.

Most TDI's these days run on VW507 5w-30, so I doub't it's a problem.

As long as it meets the standard you need, then I can't see it being a problem.

Ta. :) The engine seems a lot quieter now too.

I noticed this on most cars, that clean oil quietens things down a good amount.

This seems particularly true on the VAG TDI (and PD) engines.

Obviously the 0w-30 is going to be a bit better when it's cold and the 10w-40 a bit better when it's particularly warm.

As I said I can't see you having a problem with either in the UK as long as they say the correct VW standard on them :)
