Possible Weak Point

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

When I had the plastic wheel arch lining out to replace the perished shock absorber buffers at the weekend, I noticed that the wheel arch lining was rubbing on the sill (obviously at the front of the wheel arch, where the lining over-hangs the sill). Thankfully, it was easily fixed with some extra paint & lacquer (and I've padded the area with a thin strip of rubber so it shouldn't happen again).

Just thought I'd say, as it's probably something you'd want to keep an eye on, especially if you have an older Fabia - on mine, you couldn't see it with the wheel arch lining in, unless you really pulled it back (sounds a lot like a slight design issue, to me).

Yes that's where they start to rust if not looked after. Same at the front only it's the bit of lower wing at the back of the liner.

interesting to know, will check mine to see what its like

Yeah, I guessed it'd be the same type of thing at the front, but couldn't really be bothered to check - it took most of my Saturday replacing the shock absorber buffers (I took the opportunity to clean the wheel arch lining, arch interior, shock absorber, insides of the wheels, and de-rusted the edges of the disc brakes while I was at it), and most of Sunday fixing the paint ... a job for next weekend, but thanks for the reminder. :)

I was a little surprised, as it looks like the previous owner has tried to look after it well (generally very good condition, full main dealer service history) ... guess it kind of reinforces my view of dealers not being that thorough, and always taking some time yourself ...

Just thought I'd mention it, as I've not seen it on here or any of the guides before...

Glad to know it's been of use. :)
