New Octavia - buying advice wanted please.

Featured Replies

Hi, I am new on here and looking to order a new Octavia this weekend.

I think is makes sense to buy new as due to the £2500 trade-in allowance against my old and clapped out Laguna.

I am thinking of ordering the 1.2 TSI which comes in at £10,400 is S trim (after the trade-in allowance). My budget is only £11k so really reluctant to go much over this.

Which leads to the folloing options:

- 1.2 TSI in SE trim but non-metallic (red or white)

- 1.2 TSI in S trim metallic (silver)

- 1.4 TSI in S time non-metallic (red or white).

The cost of all these options works out at no more than £11,400. What I don't want to do is end up going the whole hog with a 1.4 TSI SE + metallic paint - it has to be a compromise.

Hope everyone is not too bored now...!

I'd push the boat out and go for a 1.4 SE. Failing that a 1.2 SE.

A lot of options can be added afterwards so plump for the 1.4 S

1.2 SE in White from the three options listed :)

Thanks, keep them coming...

Don't forget to order the spare wheel kit. It's expensive to buy on its own after.

A brand new Octavia for a little over 10k is damn good value whatever trim/spec you plump for. You won't be disappointed! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

It does seem a pretty amazing deal and very excited about it :) .

My dealer said I need to order quickly for the Laguna to qualify due to the MOT expiring soon. So I need to make some decisions very quickly :S

I notice there is a non metallic "Dynamic Blue". Does this look OK on the Octavia? Or is white a better idea...

Personal preference on the colour I'd say :)

True what others have said though, £10K for a brand new Octavia is amazing.

Hi

was the £2500 trade in on the scrappage deal as i got £3500 for my one, £3500 could up your options a little

New car arrived in country to day hope to pick up early next week

£2500 scrappage on petrol Octavia and £3500 on diesel Octavia

If you were to order through 'drivethedeal' at the same price of approx 10500 for the 1.2 TSI then you would be able to flog your Laguna (ha ha!! I know I had one) privately and any money raised from that you could look at widening your options. Unless of course the Laguna is worth nothing at all.

It's not part of the government scrappage scheme but Skoda's own "Happy Swapping" scheme. My car does not qualify for scrapping as it is 6 months too new. It seems pretty generous as there is no financial incentive from the government on this one.

I think the idea is that I run the Laguna until the MOT expires in June while waiting for the new car. So it probably works out the same as buying from the broker, but thanks for the advice.

By the way, NEVER, EVER buy a Laguna. Everything breaks as it is made from cheese.

My dad used to have a 1995 Laguna, 2.0 RXE. IIRC it liked to consume exhausts...and had a weird odd knocking noise at 30mph in the back (which only he could here)

He bought it with like 88K on it and parted with it at 135K though :)

mk1 lagunas were alright. mk2's were definately made from cheese right enough :giggle: cool hidden key trick on the mk2.

SE trim from your choices RowlandF  cracking value for money. As the wise man said, you can't loose money on depreciation if you don't spend it in the first place!

Thanks guys!

Looks like it will be the 1.2 TSI SE. That much is decided.

Colour wise I am now thinking Dynamic Blue (non metallic). Does this look OK? Or would white be better?

To be honest I don't really care too much. I just don't want to wreck the resale in 3 years time with a daft colour choice! I once bought a car in dark "doom" blue you understand...

Last question, I promise :)

If I were choosing a flat colour I'd go for the red - seen one in the flesh and it looks really nice. I'm not really a white car fan though, and the blue, if its the one I'm thinking of, just somehow looks too, umm, like you couldn't afford the metallic ;)

Good, thanks for this advice. White is great on a Vrs but not so sure on a basic car. Red is tried and tested I guess.

Unless I can get the dealer to throw in the option of metallic for a nominal amount extra then it looks like it will be red.

don't forget that your factory extras (like metallic and spare wheel) should be VAT reduced At least.

we got the mats, sparewheel, and light assist (i.e. the £55 options) thrown in for nowt when negotiating.
