Brake fluid? dot 4 or super dot 4?

Featured Replies

Going to change my brake fluid soon and does anyone know how much of it I actually need? i've looked everywhere online including here but couldnt find a mention of it. Usually they are sld in 1ltr bottles but im sure this only covers the expansion tank thing in the engine bay and not the entire system?

Also whats the difference between dot 4 and super dot 4?

My Polo was done with spare from 2litres. Not sure how much the Fabia holds, but can't see much difference.

I think it holds 1 litre of fluid, but you need at least 1.5-2 litres to flush it through. Remember it's the clutch fluid as well.

It does not matter if you get Dot 4, Super Dot 4 or Dot 5.1 as long as you don't buy the silicone Dot 5. I'd buy the best fluid with the highest (wet) boiling point. Some Dot 4's are actually better than Dot 5.1's.

I think this stuff is the best you can buy. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-894-motul-rbf-600-factory-line-racing-brake-fluid.aspx

I go for super dot 4 as it has a higher wet boiling point and will last the two years unlike 5.1.
