rIGHT GENTS (AND LADIES) - Scenario - couple of years ago ,lad got married in States .Due to problems ,we couldn't get ,but friends of theirs shot reels of photos and posted on net . Download is approx full DVD -like as if either moved ,photo was taken .I've whittled photos down to approx 200 on my PC ,and copied them across to wifie's laptop. That's WHERE problem comes in .I can run win 7/xp/win2k on mine -hers is a win2k laptop. Lap top can access net ,via router ,but I can't get the two to talk in any OS USING Bluetooth 54Mbps .However ,they will see each other on bluetooth ,but I can't get access to printer via bluetooth . Idea is to let her choose pics and print them on my printer .HELP.

Is it a networked printer?

Or, why not just have her print them off your pc?

Distilling out the issue.....

You want your wifes W2K lappy to print via a printer connected to your PC which is Win7?

ok .... a couple of things need to be right first before you'll be able to share anything........

if both machines are able to access the net, then your ip configuration is all good, so thats a start.

next thing you need to ensure is that both machines are on the same workgroup : in windows 7 right click on "computer" and select properties. look down the window that appears, and take note of of the workgroup name...... next, you need to check the workgroup on the windows 2000 machine. to do this (and this is very much from memory) go into your control panel, double click on system, click on identification tab, and make sure the workgroup entry says the same thing as the windows 7 machine. if it doesn't, click change and .... well you get the point. click ok on that, and your machine should say "welcome to the xxxxxxx workgroup". click on that, and the computer should ask to reboot.

reboot the machine, and when it comes back up, go to the windows 7 box, and open your printers folder in control panel. right click on your printer and select "sharing" ... a bit of a wizard will run and that should be your printer shared.

back on the windows 2000 box, open network neighbourhood, and with any luck you should see your workgroup name. double click on that, and you should hopefully see the name of your windows 7 machine. if you do, double click that, and with any luck you should see the shared printer. right click on it and select "connect"

.... this is a very simplified explanation.... you might have problems with the windows 7 firewall, and a lack of wins or internal dns, but i'll keep an eye on this thread and help out more if you need it

hope that helps

Yes - or alternatively via XP Pro on same PC( would prefer Win 7 though ,as PC sits mainly on Win7) .Printer & file sharing is on - both are on same workgroup ( MSHOME) and lappy can see PC -both ping via router ( PC is 192.168.2.2 & lappy 2.3)- both show up on router .

Have you tried start --> Run \\192.168.2.2 on the laptop. With any luck you'll see the shared areas of the PC and you will hopefully see the printer... Then you install the driver on the laptop if it doesn't already have it and Robert is your mothers brother...

Ta Raglits -tried going down the bluetooth route ,but ended up with lots of bluetooth stuff that wouldn't come off -so to stop further problems going for a win 2k reinstall .Will try that idea when things back up .BTW -your profile location says "Near " - how near ,I'm in CV9 territory .( also known as Treakletown  )

Thanks for the help -got it in end .There was a few funnies going on ,so decided to format HD and re install - With same workgroups on both ,the lappy had fits of not connecting/dropping out ,and intermittant ping sessions .In the end decided to look at Zone alarm settings - dropped a level on trusted zones and added ip range of router to trusted zone and suddenly pings read both ways -PC showed up on lapy and so did printer and dropouts stopped .Haven't tried to print yet - that's for later.

Meriden - know the area -Mrs worked at the Forest just after it opened .
