Alien Vs Predator - time to upgrade?

Featured Replies

I've started playing Alien Vs Predator in the last few days and I'm quite enjoying it. I wouldn't say I'm a huge gamer, but I do play around 10hrs a week. My dilema is that whilst the graphics in AVP are good, I'm sure they could be improved if I went for a Directx 11 card. My current spec is below and I find that occasionally the FPS drops to a very low level and almost stops. My dilema is do I go for another 8800gt and SLI them, or invest in another, more powerful GPU??

Intel Q6600 overclocked to 3.12ghz

3gb Ram (DDR - PC2-5300)

INNO3d 512mb 8800GT

Given my limited gameplay, is it worth the upgrade. Thoughts??

I'd say a newer graphics card!

If you SLI it will cost about £50 to £100 for a 2nd hand card, if you go for a new card then would that mean you need to goto an ATI card as I think GeForce doesn't have a Direct X 11 card yet.

Then would that possibly mean a new motherboard at the same time?

Brand new card is most likely going to cost more the double the price of SLI, but I dont think you will get direct X 11 if you SLI.

I have the same dilema at the moment, as I am currently running a XFX 8800 GTX XXX card with Aliens Vs Predator, Paige is playing that game a lot more than me at the moment.

If I am wrong I am sure someone will kindly correct.

What screen resolution are you running at?

TBH if you say the fps drops to a very low level i would think you have another problem...

Also DX11 wont make much difference.. youll probably find that performance will be slightly worse (as they always are with first-gen games on new dx tech)

Running at 1920x1080 (i think it was this). It was the default setting when I installed the game.

I got the same processor as you but 4 gig and a ati 4870 1 gig

I played the demo at 1920 x 1080 and it flew through it.

Just get a big ass ATI 5 series card (around £120) and you'll be fine I reckon

I did run a 7950 gtx2 which is two cards on one board and not that far behind the 8 series and this card breezes that.

I've been looking at the processor upgrades and atm the 6600 still packs enough punch so theres no real benefit in messing around with that as you need board and ram which sends it sky high atm.

HTH
