Octavia on Order - Want to Add MDI

Featured Replies

The above says it all, really! :)

Any idea if my order date will be drawn out if I add the MDI to my Octavia?

Ordered on the 22nd of Feb. Still waiting for a build date.

Doubt it to be honest unless theres a backlog on the parts. If not its easy enough to have retrofitted

As Dan said above, don't get too hung up on altering your order (if the dealer lets you) as it can be retro-fitted.

Dan himself did mine, and made a fine job of it too  I've now got the extra choice of either an 80Gb ipod or 320Gb USB hard drive

Provided the car has not been built (of course) then the dealer can fax (yes I did say fax) a change of spec to the factory. I did it and I know it works.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

Just a few more questions if it's alright :)

How much is the extra of having the MDI? Would a retrofit cost much more?

I'd be confident in installing the unit myself; but the part I'd be worried about is breaking the glovebox. So I'd rather have it done properly.

EDIT: And can I just say :o @ faxing in this day and age.

So it looks like it's much better to have the thing fitted in factory.

Now that brings up the other question.

Is it worth going through all of this hassle/cost just so I can play my iPod on the Bolero?

I don't think the Bolero plays unprotected AAC CDs without the MDI - which bugs me a lot as it would have been the ideal solution for me. I have to admit that I like iTunes format/layout and the quality of their tracks :S

user on ebay called dsgwagen, there actually Gilders Volkswagen of Doncaster were selling some recently for for £125. Mine was a VW unit and is now fitted in Brimmas car no problem, not as easy to fit as the above link though as that one is plug and play. You'll not damage the glove box removing it, you just need to make sure you find all the screws.

I take it that there's a hole/mount/cradle already in the glove box for the cable? I haven't examined the box of an Octavia so please forgive the ridiculous question!

Added the MDI today for 153 euros. Downside - been told regardless my Elegance has been delayed for another six weeks due to a radio shortage. :(

Definitely. Going to get myself an engraved iPod Nano as a little gift for waiting so long for my car. Also going to start using iTunes more often for my albums as I'm tired of having stacks of CDs lying around. iTunes Plus is a nice format (256 VBR Bitrate from Digital Source) so it'll be ideal to have it in the car.

320K - don't accept anything less and even at this bitrate you can tell its an MP3.

If you record at the highest quality then, you'd be better off buying a 160Gb Ipod Classic, as a Nano would hold many at that quality setting.

I intend to get a 160Gb Classic for personal use & use my old 30Gb one for the car, it's not even 50% full with 2590 tracks @192kbps.
