Plastic SKC tab

Featured Replies

Can anyone decipher what the various numbers on the plastic SKC tab are?

I picked up a 'new' (new to me) Octavia TDi today. There was no Stream security code in among the various documents I got. I did get the SKC tab though with the 4 digit SKC code and 17 digit Immobiliser number. There was a second sticker with the 8 digit truncated VIN number.

There was yet a third sticker on in the tab that had two numbers; a 2 digit number and below that on the same sticker a 5 digit number with a leading zero. Does anyone have any idea what those two numbers could be?

I'm clutching at straws hoping that the 2 digit number is a descriptor for a Stream and the 5 digit is the Stream code.

The only reason I ask is that I want to investigate fitting a different HU and don't want to end up with a useless Stream if it all goes wrong.

Just ask your nearest skoda dealer, and they will 90% of the time get you your radio code for free. and even tell you if its stolen or not.

The only way a radiocode can be retrieved is though the VW Portal/elsa Pro or with the original tester.

If you have VAGCOM you can read out the serial number of the radio, and just call your dealer, with the VIN and the radio serial number, and they can get you the code.

And VAG radio codes is always 4 digit.

That's the key number. I always thought that immobiliser numbers were 14 digits. There may be a separate sticker in the radio handbook with the radio details on it. The radio should be comfort coded, so it will know that it belongs in that particular car and will enable itself without the need to enter a code.

thanks chaps.

I was going to remove the Steam tomorrow to try another HU. If all I need is the Stream serial and VIN to get the code I'll crack on and ask the original dealer for the Stream code if I need to put the Stream back in.

I just didn't relish the idea of having a perfectly good and legit HU that I had screwed up by fiddling.

Thanks again.

Yes, but remember that once another HU goes into the car, and the correct code for the new unit is put in, the car will remember the new code for the new radio, and the old code for the original unit will no longer be stored.

Exactly!

Just been quoted £15 plus VAT by Garland Motors in Aldershot to look up the code. They said they wouldn't see the code and it would be coded directly to the car!??

I gave up trying to explain there would be no point at all in that as I want the code so I can take the Stream out. ~ Stone me!
