Smoky Skoda VRS... Oh Noooooo

Featured Replies

I have a 2001/2002 Skoda VRS 1.8T...

I have a problem which has come on over the last view weeks... the car is kicking out smoke twice a week, for a period of 5 minutes from the exhaust.

Also, on a morning the car struggles to tick over when cold for 3 or 4 minutes...

The engine management light is now on as well

This is an intermittent problem and its doing my head in...

Do I convert back to a Civic Type R??? I hope not...

CAN ANYONE GIVE ME A CLUE OF WHATS UP WITH MY VRS???????

PLEASE...

What colour smoke is it?

There will be fault codes stored if there is an engine management light on so if you can get it scanned that may point you in the right direction

Is it losing coolant at all?

The smoke is greyish, and no, it doesnt seem to be losing coolant... its a mystery...

It only smokes for 2 - 3 minutes then is fine!!!

sounds like could be burning oil,get it on vag com or a dtc scanner.

I'd think lubricant is more likely to be blue, on the described basis. Yes, it can be white, but if it is then it's smokescreen thick, and burning about a pint a mile!

An odd 5 minutes worth twice a week makes me think that there might be a condensate forming in the intercooler.

Best bet is to get it fault code scanned, there will be stored codes if there is an engine management light which will give you an idea of what it's up to.

If you can jack it up and take the drivers side front wheel off, loosen off the hose clip and seperate the pipe below from the intercooler, this should drain a lot of the oil out which is sitting in the intake pipework, it's possible if there is a lot of oil in there then this is what is getting burnt. Is the oil level going down quicker than usual?
