Cam Belt on Fabia 1.4 (Ambient)

Featured Replies

Could do with a spot of advice folks.

I have just taken delivery o a Fabia Sport (Corrida red) 105 bhp and Iam jolly pleased with it so far. However, rather than trade-in I sold our 3 year old Fabia 1.4 petrol (ambient) to our daughter. In September it will be 4 years old and when serviced I know they will request a cam-belt change. The car so far has only done 28 000 miles. With low mileage like this could my daughter safely resist the cam-belt change and have it done a year later so to speak when she has more funds?

Cheers.

At that age and spec, there's not chance it's the old MPi, so yes it will have a cambelt, and yes it should be changed since age is as much of an issue as the amount of use (they start to crack like old tyres). Going to a specialist should see you / her getting change out of 200 quid, which still sounds like a lot, but bear in mind two things: first, it'll only need doing next year if you delay; and second, it's a darn sight cheaper than a new engine. Scare tactics, perhaps, but it's probably a bigger risk than skimping on something like oil changes in all honesty. Couldn't you go halves with her if funds are that much of an issue?

Thanks for that. I suspected having the cam-belt done sooner rather than late would be case (especially having read the top sticky).

Thanks
