Going from PD VRS to CR VRS

Featured Replies

Looking to change my PD VRS for a CR one due to the good deals at the moment. The only CR they had in the garage to demo was a DSG and I am used to (and think prefer) a manual. Now the car was very quiet and seemed to accelerate well but did not seem to have the 'kick' of the PD. Is this the gearbox or is it the engine? Does the DSG blunt some of the power delivery? If you have made a similar swap I would like to hear what your impressions/opinions are.

Also thinking of moving from a hatchback version to an estate. Again if anyone has bmade this move what impressions/opinions do you have.

I am looking to get the options of full leather, maxidot, sunset glass (if get estate) rear parking sensors and dimmable mirror/lights. Is there anything else that would be seen as essential? I looked at Xenons but I do not do a lot of night driving and when I do it is mainly in street lit areas so not sure if I would benefit much from this. I have read on here that you can get emergency lights when braking and corner fogs enabled. How do you do this and are there any other 'hidden' features that are worth enabling? Is the variable floor worthwhile?

Only got time for a quick response. But I've just changed from a PD vRS to a CR vRS. New one is more economic, quieter and delivers the power slightly differently though the net effect is similar performance. The PD used to give you a wallop of thrust but the CR seems like a slightly flatter delivery over a wider rev range, almost like it's been remapped but without the performance gains. I definitely notice this at low revs in low gears, you don't get that feeling that you need to drop down.

I'd add heated seats, full size spare and possibly MDI (I've added these and more to my order - see signature for full spec).

With regard to PD versus CR, haven't tried the vRS CR, but wife has a Yeti with the 170CR and it is so much smoother though does feel a little flatter in the delivery of the power.

Given that the power and torgue are the same for the PD and CR, the CR has an extra 500 r.p.m over the PD so it feels like the torque curve has been streched over a wider rev range and hence that's why it doesn't quite have the kick that the PD has.

Also, I'm not sure if some of the gear ratios have changed. I've always thought that 1st gear in my PD vRS is a little too low and I'm almost immediately going for 2nd as soon as I've moved off. I'm sure someone else has posted that 1st gear is a little taller in the CR, but I might be mistaken (wouldn't be the first time  )

Thanks for the replies. I thought the heated seats came as part of the leather option, is that correct? and I am definately getting full size spare (not an option in my opinion as should be standard!!)

Also how does the factory bluetooth hands free work. Can it be put on a manual car or is it only DSG? If you can have it with DSG how does it operate as I assume there are no buttons on the steering wheel. Also do you have to program the voice recognition (i.e. put a voice tag to each contact) or , like my Bury, can you say the name and it recognises it? I like the idea of a fully integrated system but do not want to lose the functionalityu of my Bury.

Heated is an option with leather.

I have the GSMII factory b/t in mine and it's operated by the buttons on the right hand stalk. As there's no phone button (due to no mfsw on the manual) you can't use voice activation, you have to select the contact via the list that shows up in the maxidot.

Thde dealer told me the leather included heat seats so I will need to check this when I order by the sounds of it.

Heated seats are not included with the vRS leather option. To order them the dealer will have to enter the code on the system (this combination is not listed in the brochure, i.e. vRS leather + heated).

I went from PD to a CR. Big difference is the refinement and linear power delivery of the engine. It is also a lot easier to drive smoothly in traffic, I always found the PD a bit 'clonky'.

The CR doesn't 'feel' as fast, but there seems to be little in it. I don't think that they have changed the gearing, first runs out pretty quick.

Economy is better by a couple of mpg overall (only 5000 miles from new, and a very cold winter), and it seems easier to achieve better mpg.

Definitely order the spare wheel. It is only £50.

Thanks for the comments. I will definately watch out for the heated seats thing. I hate it when the salesman does not actually know the options properly. Had I taken his word I could end up without features I wanted. The spare well was on my must have list too. I think I will not bother with the bluetooth and get another Bury system instead (saw it locally for £180 fitted so will save me a bit too).

I ordered a vrs petrol last week with leather and heated seats. Two separate options. I work as a business manager in a Skoda dealership and can guarantee it's two options not a package.
