Same but Different?

Featured Replies

SWMBO has a 57 reg.Golf loan car at present, a TDi GT Sport , after a bit of head scratching. No additional badging except GT on the steering wheel and a deep black front grill.

I know that this is mechanicallly the same as my Octavia but she insists it is much better to drive, better acceleration, with a tighter turning circle and quieter to drive and has a MUCH better stereo. Wheels and tyres are the same 225/45/17 but Michelin Pilot Sport. Feels much the same performance (as a passenger) and the noise levels may be slightly different. I concede the seats are slightly more accomodating and comfortable. I'm feeling very rejected.

Check the vehicle kerb weights.

Does it have a chrome exhaust?

GT TDI is the sports suspension one.

Might also have solid bushings on the wishbones, I can't remember.

If yours doesn't have sports suspension, then that will be the difference.

I've got the sports suspension and 17" wheel package on the Octavia (as my signature).

I noted the Golf insists on 2.4 bar all round for half load whereas my Octavia requires 2.1bar front and 2.2 bar rear (tyre sizes identical). Odd when I'd imagine the Octavia is the heavier car.

Could be in her head, VW = better car? Possibly could be faster etc as it is most likely slightly lighter
