Does this really work ?.

looks like a nasty resistor mod

Run Away...

Avoid like the plague... If it's like most tuning boxes it just lies to the engine about it's settings, usually to make it overfuel the engine, but running the risk of the engine not detecting faults as they happen or misdiagnosing them. Get the engine itself remapped and a power increase like that is quite easily possible - I got about 30 bhp more on a remap and the tuner has got his PD 105 engine pushing out 170 bhp...

Fleabay resistor mod - all it does is con the engine into thinking it's running cold all the time.

If you're really interested in spending £34 on an fixed resistor, I have a dead PS2 full of them for the low low price of £250 + shipping and handling! ;)

IMHO its a cheap resistor job that cost pence to make.It works by reducing the signal from the air temp sensor to con the ECU into pumping more fuel into the engine (cold air is denser and contains more Oxygen so the stock ECU map will inject more fuel in colder conditions to maintain the correct fuel / air ratios) . It will give some power increase at the the expense of cleanliness of combustion. Over fuelling = dirtier combustion = more soot in the exhaust gases = coked up turbo in the long term.

Power increase is probably a bit on the optimistic side too. There have been many threads on here about these tuning boxes and their claims. Also it doesn't change the map on the ECU at all so will not make the turbo boost for longer. If you want to tune up your TDi its well worth the extra cash to get a proper remap, personally I would steer clear of this type of box.

Is the power and torque increase stated to be believed ?.

it could quite possibly give those figures, but seriously dont do it! Those plug in units contain nothing more than a bit of circuitry that lies to the ecu about air temps etc causing your car to push itself harder.

lets put it this way ...... my remap cost £235 and thats cheap in most peoples books. no two cars are the same and most of the cost of a decent remap is in the skill involved tuning your vehicle to give it's best while retaining reliability and driveability. my car is pumping out about 140 bhp (no idea about the torque, but it pulls like a b*****d) and it's still got a clutch / turbo nearly 30,000 miles after having it done. buy one of those things, and you'll find yourself without either quickly!

Hello there, if you want to go down the tdi tuning module method, take a look at these chaps;

http://www.dieselpowertuning.co.uk/

I've got one of these fitted, (done by professional installer) and it has made a considerable difference in economy

and power. The car is easier to drive and smoother through the gears.

That tdi box on ebay does look 'dodgy' and would not recommend. I could have had a remap for the same price from the installer i used

but i couldn't have taken that remap to my next car. Although there are some tuners who sell self tuning remap kits i believe but i think they're even more expensive.

DRIVE SENSATION with MAX POWER

hey guys ..... maybe we should have a sticky entitled "reasons why you shouldn't buy a 30 quid tuning box off ebay" ? (i'm almost being serious :)

i particularly liked this bit :

By the use of excluding original plugs of the VWAG and the splash-proof building method can do we heedlessly one.

eh?

makes more sense if you read the line straight below and ignore the full stops lol, sort of

By the use of excluding original plugs of the VWAG and the splash-proof building method can do we heedlessly one WARRANTY OF 5 YEARS on the Tuningbox give.

i must have missed the extra text ... i was going word blind reading the b0ll0cks on that page :)

If Yoda the engine tune does do, it's got to be legit ...right? :giggle:
