Coolant Sensor Picture

Featured Replies

Hi All

Got my hubby to go the scrpyard and find the coolant sensor replacement - He came home empty handed...

Does any one have a picture of the coolant sensor?

The car starts always but at times the coolant light comes on and there is definitely enough coolant in the tank

Any ideas how to clean it and where it is - Is there a picture of that?

Haha! I just did a pic of coolant sensor location on a fabia vRS - what variant do you have?

your problem is more likely to be muck on the probes for the low coolant level sensor in the expansion bottle. Give them a scrape with a screwdriver or replace the expansion bottle.

I keep reading that but I dont understand it all...

How can I scrape the probes? Are they three pongs and clip into the expansion bottle? If so they are definitely clean. I unplugged that and looked at it

Thanks - I have a 1.4 MPI so the layour is different

Is the sensor the three prongs that clip into the expansion bottle?

open the expansion bottle and look inside you should see two long probes inside where the connector is on the outside. They sit in a sort of little tray - get a long screwdriver and scrape it up and down the prongs a few times. Sorry I don't have a picture to hand, I may be able to take one tomorrow.

Just buy a new coolant bottle from a stealers, under a tenner. This is what puts the warning on the dash.

And if you do really need a coolant temp sensor, look for jorily skoda on ebay and buy new :)

Its not just the cost of the bottle - You need to flush the system as well to change the bottle...

Can you change the bottle without draining the water? Is that possible?

If you syphon off/drain the coolant that's in the header tank and keep it clean you can reuse it. Once you have emptied the bottle not much more coolant will spill out if you're careful.

So glad that someone can talk a bit of sense

No flush or anything required like that at all

But took me and my fella less than 10 mins to fit , did not spill a drop and cost apprx £8 to do

But then , a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing

But take your time when the engine is cold and it is very very easy

i would go to the scrap yard for anything but electic sensors
