Columbus maps versions

Featured Replies

I'm sure this must have been asked before, so apologies if this is obvious. Just taken delivery of a new Skoda Yeti, with Columbus Sat Nav fitted at factory. Problem is, the road we live in isn't on the map, even though the road was built 7 years ago.

So, how do I check what version maps are installed? I would have expected v6 from the factory.

Didnt you get the actual map DVD with the car? That'll have the details printed on it. Or you can use VAG-COM to access the 'hidden' menu within the Columbus to find out, or ask your dealer.

You could always download a 'backup' copy of V6.........

Thanks for the reply Keith. No DVD supplied with the car, no. The Columbus was factory fitted, so the maps are installed on the HDD - presumably at the factory.

I don't really want to download v6 maps if that's what's already installed. Hence my question about how to check the map version that's installed on the HDD. If I find that it's not the latest version, then I can go back to the dealer and complain, since I was told when we ordered the Yeti that the Satnav maps were "bang up to date".

Which mapping company do Skoda use for their maps?

You should have got the DVD from your dealer as well. I'd chase them for it, but as they didnt give you the DVD I would not surprised to find you didn't have V6 installed.

Check the version you have as I suggested. Skoda get the maps from Navteq I think.

If you havent got VCDS then go back to the dealer and get them to prove what version is installed. I suspect the "bang upto date" statement is just waffle from a salesman who doesn't know exactly what he is talking about.

Thanks again Keith. Well, the dealer has promised to phone after a week of ownership to see if everything's okay, so I'll ask about the DVD then.

Just checked Navteq's website, and our road isn't on their map :( So, maybe I have got v6 after all. Wish there was someway to check, but I haven't got a clue how to access VCDS (whatever that is).

Can anyone confirm that there is definately no way to display what version maps is installed on the HDD without using VCSD?

Yup the maps are woofully out of date. The roundabouts in my village have been there for 8 years and aren't there.

More fun if you drive in Edinburgh where the one way system doesn't match the directions so it keeps trying to take you the wrong way down a one way street.

Oh Basingstoke was fun too, I spent most of my time driving over fields according to the Sat Nav, I was on a main road!!!

Funny thing is that you could replace most of the Columbus system with an iPhone and a £26 Sat Nav app and have a much better system than the £1,800 list price.
