Replace Fuel Filter

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone instruct me how to do this? My 1.9Tdi failed its emissions yesterday and I've been told that changing the fuel filter can help, does that sound right? I thought that for the sake of a fiver I'd give it a go. Thanks for any help,

Ross

I can't see how.

In any event, the only "emissions" test that applies to a diesel is a "visible smoke" test. Get the engine hot, then rev it right into the governer for about 15s. That should shift loose carbon dust from the exhaust system; if that doesn't work, take the air filter out for the duration of the test.

Guess if you changing the fuel filter, you could pop in some injector cleaner into it (along with diesel). Remember it is best to put some fuel into the filter as there is no self-priming system on the octy, so you need to keep hanging on the starter to get fuel back through thr system. Do it in short bursts on the starter so as not to burn anything out :-)

Are you sure that's the only test? Is is a visibility test, or do they actually measure things? The only reason I ask is because I was presented with a document stating a absortion coefficient limit of 3.00 1/m and mine was 3.07 1/m, how annoying!

Thanks

visibility test as to how much "black sh!t" comes out of the exhaust, that is done by a machine (not by eye).

Ok, it's done by machine and not mk1 eyeball, but it's still only a smoke test rather than a CO or HC emissions type test.
