New Superb - six weeks on

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm a frequent lurker but very sporadic poster. Never having had much to contribute before I thought that now we have a new (to us) car I would share my thoughts on the Superb 170CR DSG Elegance that we've had for about six weeks.

Being a dealer ex demonstrator we had no choice on the colour but I have to say that Mocca has really grown on me and actually looks pretty fab now that I've given it a clay and two coats of Collie 476.

I've spent a long time toying with the idea of changing up from the Octavia PD140 Elegence that we've had for the past three years and I am not disappointed. The Octy was fab but the Superb is just nicer, if that makes sense? It's so comfortable and spacious, and the 170CR engine is miles smoother and quieter than the PD, which now sounds a bit agricultural in comparison. I was very dubious about the DSG box but I love it. It's so smooth and easy to drive. Yes, just occasionally it might change down unexpectedly, but that is probably due to me being a bit heavy on the kickdown, and when changing from 3rd to 2nd under engine breaking it can sometimes be a bit "clonky" but other than that it's an absolute delight to drive.

The only slight downside, and I guess that this is down to personal taste etc, but I do find the ride on the 18'' wheels a wee bit on the hard side, compared to the 16'' on the Octy. SWMBO and I took the car over to Cork for Easter to visit the in-laws, as we do every year, and I did find the jittery ride quite tiring after a while, but then the winter has played havoc with the regional roads over there and they are in a far worse state than the UK. There are a couple of other niggles that I'll get sorted at the first service, such as the arm-rest/jumbo box thingy between the front seats which sounds like a nest of sparrows on rough road surfaces - it squeaks like mad, but I just keep my elbow on it and that keeps it quiet.

There is one thing that is perplexing me and that is the two metal loops on either side of the the passenger seat cushion where it meets be seat back. I really didn't notice them when we bought the car and will ask the dealer at the service but perhaps someone can shed some light on it for me before then? I wonder they might be something to do with the ISOFIX seat fixing for kids seats. Seems odd that they are so visible though.

Thoughts/comments welcome and I hope you guys find it a useful post. I've tried pasting in the URLs from Flickr using the insert image button but it keeps telling me that I can't use "that image extension". Being a bit of an IT numpty I don't know what that means. If anyone can help me I'll post some pics as well.

That's exactly what they are, ISOFIX attachments.

Hi

They are indeed the ISOFIX fixings - I know this having recently bought a maxi cosi ISOFIX base to transport my 2 month old grandaughter - I had to 'squash' the seat base in the front to see them on my Greenline version

So do you know if is there a way of hiding them at all? We have no kids so are not needed.

A

The attachments are welded to the seat frame, they are visible to make it easy to fit the child seat. As they are welded, you just like me will have to put up with them. My superb interior is onyx, so you dont really notice them.

In the Octy thay are hidden with a zip, dont you have one?

They are hidden away on the back seats but completely on view on the front passenger seat. If I could get the images to link properly you could see what I see.
