VRS High pressure fuel pump?

Featured Replies

My car is a octy 2.0 petrol turbo vrs on a 57 plate with 11000 miles on the clock and curently has these mods done- Full Miltek exhaust inc sports cat, Forge cold air induction kit, forge twin cooler, and Revo stage 2 software, My car is i think sufering with fuel cut so my question is would a hpfp and revo stage 2+ be a good mod. Can someone with first hand experience give me there views, basicaly is it worth doing?, if so what power difference will i see and what about fuel consumption and reliability, and will i still get fuel cut?. ive also got a brand new standard fuel pump would the kit form be ok or hpfp outright option be better. Thanks for any feedback Phil.

I think Dubtek still has a spare Autotech HPFP or two for sale at £250 delivered over on the MkV forums: Linky

Maybe it's just coincidence but whenever I hear of fuel cuts or a notable performance increase after modding the HPFP, it always seems to be in Revo-tuned cars, even Stage 1 occasionally. Just wondering if there is anything in this.

I am waiting to map-up to a Stage 2+ (or rather Shark's 'Stage 3') so can't really comment on the difference of going Stage 2 to 2+ from personal experience. The comments from many moons back on this forum was that Stage 1 to 2 gives a reasonable increase but nothing too special when it comes to on the road experience however 2+ was a different game altogether. I'll let you know! ;)

For info, I fitted the Autotech internals myself and there are some good guides on this. The hardest part for me was removing the hose clip on the rubber fuel line :smirk: . The rest was pretty easy although I didn't go for the full strip and clean per Autotech instructions - keeping it clean is very important but I felt that there was more opportunity to do damage with breaking seals on other parts of the pump or even introduce dirt by removing parts of the pump that were not directly affected by upgrading the pump internals. The full strip and clean assumed the inside of the pump was dirty but I couldn't see how that could be an issue and, if it was, unmodded pumps would be at risk too. Others may cringe at this idea but I guess time will tell. No way was I paying £700ish for the ready-built pump.

Normally Revo are requesting 128bar (I think) so a standard pump is struggling to meet that.

Even on stage 1 & 2 a pump will give an increase.

Thanks very much for the info very interesting read, if i fitted the hpfp to my car without going 2+ remap would i still feel a difference? (i will have the upgrade remap eventualy)

In my case the answer was a no as my map did not request a higher fuel volume/pressure than the OEM pump could supply. I certainly did not feel any noticeable difference in adding the Autotech internals. However, as Ian has mentioned, Revo do seem to request higher fuelling, even on Stage 1 maps, and if the OEM pump can't supply it the car adapts and sorts it out. In short, I think the answer in your case is a yes but I am only going on what others have said rather than my own experience.

There were posts from about 2 years back when Makefish was pioneering Mk2 VRS mods supporting this and some rolling road results of folks on Stage 1 Revo with performance intakes, exhaust and the HPFP getting curiously high results for a 'Stage 1'. I put Stage 1 in apostrophes as, by definition, a Stage 1 is meant to be set up for OEM hardware.

It may just be my impression but it seems Revo do go for quite aggressive (if that's the right word) settings such that when a bit of hardware goes on that can use it, it does but lets the car sort it out when it can't. Personally, I am not sure what to make of that.

No real difference when fitting mine with a Superchips stage2+, but people with Revo stage2+ do always seem to report good results.

Still waiting for Ben to get his stage 3 on the rollers, don't think he's got around to it yet.
