Nice sharp piccies, and I like the use of monochrome. Not sure about the last one, isn't there a forum rule against obscene or "liable to cause offense" material? :)

Reminds me I must get my Canon 50mm prime out and use it a bit more.

I love the Yorkie shot especially (it is a Yorkie isn’t it?). I got a 50mm prime a few months ago and think it is a revelation. I’ve used it a lot with a tripod and with it stopped down, to produce ultra sharp images, but I took these test shots when I first got it to see what the depth of field looked like wide open. Not as nice as your shots but they do demonstrate what a fast prime can do.

I need to get back into photography for the summer months at Nurburgring, a little extra pocket money for doing something I enjoy.

I've never used a 50mm fast lens but the results are very promising, sadly I have little or no use for the 50mm with what I shoot so I'll get another 70-200mm like I had last year but I'll plump for the F2.8 IS rather than the F4 I had before, should say it's a Canon lens not the NIkon version, not that I'm a fanboy or anything, had Nikon for a while they swtiched to an EOS 50D and now think a 7D is a worthy replacement.

Does anyone here have any experience of the Nikon D300 and the Canon 7D?

Was talking earlier this week to a TV cameraman about cameras and his hobby is wildlife photography and videoing his birds of prey. He now uses a 7D not only for Still shots, but shoots all his video stuff on it too. I saw a little of his work on a laptop and the results are truly amazing. The only let down is the sound, but that’s easily sorted with an external recorder and a Rycoted gun mic. The noise is pretty good too, similar to the Nikon and the processing speed of the twin digic 4s is prodigious, hence the 1080 video capture.

Really good shots Dave, I can see why that lens is so highly regarded.

I think it's my fave lens of the ones I have too. That might also be because it's the fastest one I have haha! But no, it's a nice lens :)

The shots I took at the Thorne meet yesterday were all using the 50mm.

 I have the new 35mm f1.8 and its a great lens.

Enjoy the lens it's about the only true bargain that you will ever get from Nikon. :-)

I must admit that I don't use mine as much as I probably should in one sense I'm lazy and in another most of my shots are either wider or longer.

Here is a couple of uses I've put my 50mm 1.8 to. All these were taken with my D50. I actually only used the lens on my D300 for the first time on the weekend.
