I'm Leaving You This Week

Featured Replies

After 3 years of the Superb I've hit a point where it's time to change her, she's just gone round the clock and has been one hell of a good car, I wanted to up to the new model, but cost says I can't right now because 18k S/H is out of reach for me, so instead after much deliberation I've put a deposit of a DSG one of these

I've got it from VW and a bit cheaper than this one.

Here's the killer though, I rang as an enquiry, and sent some detail for the dealer to look at, and got offered 3k px for my 04 Superb, so the depreciation isn't that bad after all, working out for me at around 2k per year of owning it, something that swung the Passat towards me anyway, my Vx cars always made just about what was owing or a pittance if they were paid off already, but in the Superb's case she's returning me 33% back over the ownership period.

Anyway, it's been a good journey and I've enjoyed you ppl's company here, together we've saved each other a few quid along the way I think, and if anyone reading is considering a Superb and can't decide, take it from me, there's nothing else, it ain't perfect but it's an honest car, and very satisfying to own and drive, parts are reasonable, and you don't need them too often anyway, if there's ever been a car to completely turn me around, it's this one, maybe it's the underdog thing, I dunno, but I do know I will miss the old smoothy barge.

No need to go. It's still VAG and owning a skoda isn't a pre-requisite for being a site member.... (although it helps ;) )

Pretty certain you'll be happy with the new motor ... and you'll still be lurking around here from time to time.

She's gone now, it nearly didn't happen, but some last minute negotiation's saved the day and m now a Beastie Boy driver, new car is nice, be even better when I get the new promised screen, fingers crossed it's a goodun, cos like Skoda, I can smell the VW excuses machine churning out fault blame already.

Little update

Car itself is a dream, she drives really well and handles the corner's good, Superb to Passat Sport, no contest on handling.

The mpg is awesome, the Superb I thought was good for an automatic averaging around 28 mpg on a weekly basis, the DSG however gives 35 mpg over the week.

Trim and Panel fit, Superb wins this one, the Skoda lines are more accurate, and the trim more secure imo.

Looks, Passat this time, probably because of the 17's, lowered suspension, and heavily tinted glass, I've always thought the Superb shape is a classic to look at.

Comfort, Passat, again although it's a spec thing, had it been an S or an SE Passat the Superb would be getting the vote, Sport seats are something else, reserved for the CC and R only now.

Performance, The Passat is a mile infront on this, off the line it's hilarious watching pp try to get up their box, you sort of go from 0-30ish in a Tommy Cooper (just like that), and on the move it doesn't have the dead spot at 50 mph the Sup auto seemed to suffer from, i.e lots of revs and little speed increase.

I've already sort of fell out with VW, I'm going to have to chase the dealer this week for things promised that haven't materialized yet.

Not happy they won't stand the used car warranty because it's a cab, Skoda for all their failings did at least stand by their ext warranty pack.

Anyway, if it behaves it stays for 3 yrs, if not it'll be gone in a yr for a Superb 2, but right now I'm well happy with it.
