Is it possible to hear the wastegate on a Ko3s. my car makes a funny shhhhh noise like the DV is dumping boost when you accelarate (You get the sound of the CAI then the shhhhh noise) however boost peaks at 1.0 bar ish so i don't think its losing any. ive had the car remaped and im just wondering if my DV can't cope with the increase. :think:

You don't hear the wastegate, the wastegate is just a little flap that opens to re-route the exhaust gases past the turbo rotor when it has reached peak boost.

The hissing you hear is probably the turbo spooling up (spinning), it hisses because the compressor blades are chopping through the air.. If you have an aftermarket DV fitted it will then make an audible Chsssch noise when you lift off.

If you drive alongside a wall with the window down and accelerate then lift off suddenly it should make a hissing noise which builds up, then the DV chsssch noise when you snap the throttle closed

its got nothing to do with the wastegate, its where the spring in the dump valve is set too hard so a lot of the boost is trying to go back through the turbo. I was fiddling with a DV on another VRS last night and got it to make this noise, if you have an adjustable Forge DV you just twist it a few clicks tighter than they recommend, it's not good for the turbo though as it is stalling the compressor wheel every time.

Is the turbo OK? If it's considerably louder than normal on spool up then it might be a tell tale that something is up with the turbo. Such as a damaged impellor blade. Or it might just be the normal turbo noise that you can hear.

The wastegate will only begin to open at higher pressure ratios / engine speeds. It should remain closed for the initial acceleration period, and normal driving. I've never heard mine make any noises when it starts to open.

1 Bar (14.5 psi) does sound a little low for a remapped car. Maybe you just have a boost leak somewhere, or a leaking DV. Most stage 1 mapped cars see roughly 16-20psi peak boost. Do you know what others with your map see?
