Lights failure warning text

Featured Replies

Has anyone had this issue?

This evening whilst driving home with my lights on I had the "Lights Failure" warning text and beep for about 3/4 seconds and then it faded away.

When I got home I checked ALL lights but could not find one that was not working? The warning did not come on again when I started the car and put the lights on again.

Any ideas - or is it just a gremlin to be ignored?

I would imagine the lights and warning sensor must be linked....so the impression i get, is that if the lights are supposedly ok and the sensor states otherwise, then maybe it could be a bulb loosing its intensity or even a bad earth causing the warning text too appear on the instrument display......other than that, if it comes on again then i would suggest further investigation....unless of course you like the warning text too appear lol

Hi

Yep - I've had this once (or maybe twice). Like you, all lights working and message disappeared next time the engine started...

cheers

If you have Xenons, it could be a load sensor which has died, or they may need setting up. Do they self level when you switch the ignition on?

Failing that, it could be a bulb which is failing intermittently or a rusty bulb holder somewhere.

I had this. Turned out a few bulbs in the end!. One side light, one dipped beam, one brake light and one number plate bulb had all failed (not at the same time) SOmetimes when I checked though the bulbs were ok. One thing I can say though is I noticed the numberplate bulb holder terminals were rusty and corroded. I cleaned them up and havent had the problem since.

Thank you all for your speedy replies. It has not come on again since - so I will leave alone until it does.

It's normally a brake bulb that isn't in properly, I had it a few times myself, it's also a sign the bulb is on it's way out, for now just undo the bulbs in the rear clusters one at a time and re-seat them, and let us know how it goes, look for ones that are black'nd, this is probably the culprit, can't make it's mind up if to die or not. hth.

Mine actually says "Brake light failure" if its a brake liht bulb.

Thanks again for your replies - have checked brake lights and they look ok but I suppose one could be intermittent. I will wait until the little begger packs up altogether.

Yes, mine too.

My superb regularly tells me I have a brake light failure, but invariably all is well, approx once a week, then it clears next restart.

I have put it down to the extra connections added into the brake light circuit for the towbar fitted after I obtained the car changing the resistances slightly.

Ive had this but for me its usually one of the headlights that does not light up when switched on. Ive even had nearside light up with off side not working, switch the lights off and then the off side lights up and the nearside isnt on. Normally I just switch them off and back on again and it sorts it.
