G3 Glasscoat - worth it or not?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have been offered a G3 Glasscoat for my new SM at £200. Alleged to provide protection to the paint and fabric.

Has anyone else opted for this? Is it worth it?

Your thoughts please.

Thanks

Simon

Buy a pack of Supagard or Autoglym Lifeshine from Ebay for £40 and apply it yourself. If you can't get hold of them then just polish the car after you get it and apply an extra gloss protection on top. This will do the same job but will need repeating every now and again. It's what I have done and the bird muck just wipes off with a damp piece of kitchen roll because it can't get a grip on the paintwork. More importantly, you don't have to pay the steep dealer margin.

Save your money and buy a selection of decent detailing stuff and do it yourself, prob cost you £40- £50. I paid £200 for paint and upholstery "protection" on my new Smart car last year and quite frankly it was crap and a total waste of money. I use the waterless wash and wax stuff Greased Lightning/Showroom Shine and get a great finish every time with no swirl marks. Great protection against bird muck, tar splashes and atmospheric fall out (I work on a chemical complex) just spray, polish and wipe off, job done. Used to use Autoglym polish, great stuff but had to wash car first, not now with the waterless stuff. Have a water meter and three cars in the household, and am using 40 tonnes of water a quarter so any way of saving water saves me money.

I was sceptical at first and watched the videos on Youtube and Ideal World and thought I'd give it ago. That was two years ago and have used it on my Altea, Ibiza, Octy vrs and Smart car, now using it on my new Yeti and getting great results with no swirl marks. Have a look and give it a go, you'll find it hard to believe but certainly does what it says.
