Heater Fan and ABS Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi,

Over the last few weeks my heater fan has been not working too well - It seemed to be blowing without much force even on No.4.

Yesterday the fan seemed to die, although it does come on every now and then. Came on once when I went over a bump.

I'm not sure if it's a coincidence but from yesterday my ABS warning light is also permanently on although the brakes and ABS seem fine?

Any ideas?

Octavia 1.9 TDI 2001

Thanks

The ABS light can also be two other things (at least on a 1.8T anyway, not sure about the TDI)

Faulty MAF sensor

or

Intermittent problem with one of the ABS sensors (if this is intermittent the ABS will still work)

If you can get it fault code scanned, if there are any faults then make a note of the codes, clear them and see if it comes back.

Thanks for the reply.

I managed to fix the problem with the fan, for now at least.

One of the brushes is very worn down so I moved the supporting post slightly and it's been working now since Saturday. Not sure how long this will last though. Probably needs a new fan!.

So all I have to worry about now is the ABS warning light.

I received an Autel Vagscanner VAG305 yesterday.

The scan shows only one code - 00290.

From the booklet supplied with the unit, the code seems to relate to the rear left wheel - I'm taking this to be the passenger side?

The unit gives the option to clear it but on doing this I get a confirmation that it has been cleared but it hasn't.

The warning light remains and on a repeat scan the code is still there.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what to check next.

I did see some talk somewhere about changing over the sensor leads to see if it is actually a sensor fault.

If I could swap the connections for the rear sensors I guess I should see the fault showing as the right rear wheel.

any ideas please?

Take your weel off and look to see if the ABS ring is ok.

No cracks or broken and clean and see if the ABS sensors looks ok.

Dont try removing the ABS sensors unless you are going to replace it as thay brake 90% of the time trying to get them out.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

How do I get to the sensor.

I've taken the wheel off but can only get to the back of what I think is the sensor.

Do I need to take the drum off ?

If so do I just undo the cross head screw on the drum.

I can't seem to make it out from the Haynes manual.

Is there a guide here anywhere?

Thanks for your help
