Almost ordered.. put off by deposit!

Featured Replies

Tried to order my Superb Estate this morning. Trying to go through Drivethedeal, although they wanted a £2600 deposit because I had put on lots of extras.. is this normal? I have been quoted an 18 week delivery time, so will end up being Sept 1st.. seems a long time for them to have £2600 of my money..

Very frustrating... had my card ready to make the deposit, so they've lost a sale.

Dealer wanted £1000 deposit when i ordered, i gave him 1000 and whatever the little bit was (127.65 or something!) to make the final figure a nice round number. - altho i did, order through a dealer direct...

7 options in total. Heated Washers & Windscreen, Matts, Spare wheel, Sunset Glass, MDI & Park Assist.

Al.

PS. i aint got it yet... :'(

PM me the details of your Superb you want if you like, I'll see if I can get close. I won't need a deposit that big.

If you order straight from a regular dealer, which with DTD you are in effect doing, they will want hefty deposit as well, especially if you are speccing a shed load of extras that may not be popular. You don't actually pay DtD anything afaik it all goes to the dealer and the dealer pays DtD a commision for the introduction. The delivery time you have been quoted should be no different to if you walk into any dealer so your only question is "do I want to have £££ laid out in deposit for xx weeks" Given the interest rates and if you have the cash spare then I guess it isn't a big issue, and ordering from DtD you at least save ££ into the bargain.

You can always try to get a local dealer to match DtD but don't be suprised when they quote the same delivery and deposit :)

Yes I was not sure of the 10%.. it just seems so much. Especially for such a long time. Also what happens if finance is for some reason refused? (unlikely but could happen) Would I lose deposit?

The car spec is:

170 CR Elegance DSG

Silver

Luna Alloys

Paddle Shift steering wheel

Auto dimming rear view mirror

Panoramic sun roof

Heated windscreen

Park assist

Integrated side window sunblinds

Sunset glass

Variable boot floor

RRP = £29010

DTD = £25687

Looking at their order form I presume they rang you back to tell you the deposit was £2600 rather than their regular £500, did you ask if there was any room for negotiation with the lead time being so long?

I would guess that Panoramic sun roof,Park assist, Integrated side window sunblinds are the options that have bumped up the deposit and lead time as it will make it a fairly unique car to shift on at full retail if you pull out.

I also doubt you will find a dealer willing to match a £3.5 k saving on such a new model (though I am sure James will do his best)

On their order form tick the box that says it is just an enquirey or when they ring to confirm the high deposit ask about the terms regarding finance, I am sure you will be able to stipulate subject to finance and not lose your deposit (if it is Skoda finance you are taking through the dealer)
