Sync Two copies of Outlook without a PDA?

Featured Replies

I use outlook at home and also at work. I'd like to be able to sync all my contacts/calendar entries that I've got on the home copy and the work copy.

Any ideas how I'd do this?

Hi,

I tried this a couple of months ago with my home and work PCs. I use an SX1 smartphone which is sync with my home Outlook but unfortunately I was not able to attach it to my work PC.

After playing around a bit I evenutally discovered if you backup your outlook folders (calender, contacts etc etc) into a .pst file you can email it between your home and work computer. It is simply a case of restoring your new .pst file on which ever Outlook you want to update.

Unfortunately my work does not allow .pst files to be sent to work email addresses so I just stick to my phone for personal stuff and only use my work Outlook for work.

Hope this helps, and it may be an idea to ask your IT dept if it is okay to update your Outlook this way.

Regards

If its a windows pda it can be done, but its a bit hit and miss,

Remove PDA from cradle, then delete all partnerships in activesync.

Replace PDA and activesync will go through the create partnership phase, answer the questions the same till you get to "I want to syncronise with this computer only" this question has an option to sync with more than 1 pc. Select that, and go thriough till setup complete.

Do the same thing as above on the works pc, then the sync should work.

Just downloaded pfbackup, might be useful to keep it backed up.

Mannyo, I don't have a pda!

Tranfering .pst between pc's is not a problem, but if I import details between will this not create duplicates?

Just been looking through Outlook Help. You can import the data and get it to handle duplicates. Never tried it, so don't know how successful it is. I only ever use the backup to fully restore after a reinstall.

Restore items in a data file

Restore items by importing a .pst file

On the File menu, click Import and Export.

Click Import from another program or file, and then click Next.

Click Personal Folder File (.pst), and then click Next.

In the File to import box, specify the path and file name of the .pst file you want to import.

Choose one of the following:

Replace duplicates with items imported. If any existing data in the folder that you are importing to duplicates information in the .pst file, it will be overwritten with the information in the .pst file.

Allow duplicate items to be created. Existing data in the folder you are importing to will not be overwritten with the information in the .pst file but will be kept instead.

Do not import duplicate items. Existing data in the folder you are importing to will be kept, and any duplicate information in the .pst file will not be copied to the folder.

Follow the remaining instructions in the Import and Export Wizard. Microsoft Outlook copies the items from the .pst into the folder you specify.

This info is under "restore items in a data file" in outlook help.

As long as you tell it to overwrite duplicates you should not have any problems.
