Yeti Issues

Featured Replies

Hi there

I just came back from my 200 miles drive on the Yeti, have to say I am very impressed by the quality, I have not tested the performance yet, but coped very well on motorway, I was touching the accelerator at 70mph!

I have also achieved around 45 mpg on the motoway which is a massive improvement form my old car, but I am hoping for more when its run in, afterall it has only done 210 miles (or there about)

Right, there are some issues that I am hoping someone could help me wih before I go back to the dealer to have it checked.

1) At over 60 mph, there is some wind noise, not so different from the BMW X5 at similar speed - might seems like a daft question but is it normal for an SUV?

2) When I pull over after the drive, the engine emits "hissing sound", is this just because of the TSI technology?

3) It seems quite lumpy when its around 1000 to 1100 revs, is this because of the nature of a small capacity turbo engine?

4) Are the headlamps meant to be this low? They are very bright, but seem to aim quite low even when Its on the higher position, is it because its quite tall?

5) Does the car come standard with the warning triangle and first aid kit, as mine didn't have it, but the manual says there should be, its an S by the way?

Sorry about some of the questions which may seem quite daft to you, but I just want to rectify any problems before they occur.

Thanks

Gus

1) The very shape means that there is some wind resistance and noise plus there is tyre rumble (depending on the road surface) and engine noise. The level will depend on the sound deadening fitted. My Yeti is much quieter than my old X-Trail and, to me, very acceptable.

2) This may be the turbo gate. If in doubt get it checked by the Dealer.

3) My 140 TDI is pretty useless below 1500 rpm and, because the engine is so light, I often stall it. The XT engine would pull at 800 rpm - no problem, the Yeti is better above 1500.

4) The headlamps can (and should have been at the PDI stage) adjusted upwards. There is a Torx socket on the top of the lens to adjust the beam height. Being a "responsible citizen" I would suggest that you go to the garage to get the beams set properly. A flat surface and a wall usually do the job OK!!!!

5)No and No. Not in the UK. I have the SE and had to buy a triangle and first aid kit from Halfords.

Thanks for the reply.

I might let the dealer check on the hissing noise and the wind noise as I was reading from other posts there could be misalights foam? on the A-Pillar or something similar, anyway the PDI comes back with some parts make some rattle and those are on back order, and I als found the driver's door rattle going over slightly rougher (ie 50mph zones on motorways) roads, but will again notify the dealer.

I will definitely get them to adjust the headlamps as well, its definitely too low and I struggle to see road signs.

Otherwise all is well, but I would be quite interested to hear from any 1.2 TSI drivers about their low revs experience. To be more specific, basically I let the clutch go slowly without any acceleration, it moves and is not stalling as its on a flat road, it's kind of quite jerky?? Is this normal?

Would be grateful for reply, again I must stress I have never had a new car and never had a turbo car and haven't driven something this heavy manual, so any help would be appreciated!! Cheers!

This sounds like expecting far too much from a small petrol engine at idle. You should give it some gas before you let the clutch in. At the very low rpm, you can hear individial piston combustion rattle, which is normal, but not really the right technique.

My 170 CR wil start at idle and creep along in 1st or 2nd at idle in traffic jams - but that engine is quite a differnt animal with a lot more torque.

Thanks, I see what you mean, but it also happen when I drive normally as well - when I mean normally, I stilla ccelerated normally, then when changed to second rev is quite low, I just let it coast in gear, possibly at around 1000 rpm and its quite jerky - not significantly noticeable, only very small jerkiness not like its going to stall.

Possibly I am being a little to lean on the throttle as I am still running it in, might actually drive it more normally then driving it with a little more gas rather than just touching the throttle.

Have to say since our wind noise whistle has been fixed its very quiet indeed at 60......just make sure its not the whisting door seals / wing mirrors some are reporting here and we've had fixed.

Brilliant thanks, there's definitely a whistle when I tested it out last night, will be notifying them soon, the tracking also seem to be couple of degrees out (yes I am picky). But headlight is definitely aiming too low. Also a little rattle from driver's side door.
