Hi - VW convert joining you!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

Joined up a few days ago. In the final stages of speccing up a petrol Octavia estate. Very excited.

Currently drive an 05 Golf GTI DSG. Great car but too many niggles and fed up with VW customer service, which is appalling!

Father-in-law and a few colleagues have Octavias and I was always very impressed with them, so test drove both diesel and petrol vRSs last week. I was hugely impressed by the build quality and general solidity, and with two little ones (nearly 2 and nearly 4), the extra space will be very handy.

Have decided to stick with the same engine and gearbox as the VW. I found the petrol vRS smoother and slightly more responsive, and I have always loved DSG and paddles. I also do about 10,000 miles a year, so am not really worried about fuel consumption.

Anyway, I'm after your advice guys and girls!

My questions: Pretty happy with the options I've chosen (rear parking sensors, nav, auto-dimming mirror/rain sensor/light assistant, space saver, leather - the dealer has agreed to throw in Xenons to sweeten the deal - top man) but can't decide whether to go for blue or silver? What do you guys think? With that decision is whether to have silver roof rails or stick with the black plastic ones? The blue car would probably look better with the silver ones but, if I go for a silver car, I'm not sure silver rails would look right? Any views or photos would really help me!

Also, with the kids in mind, is the sunset glass worth the cost? Thinking about blinds instead for the summer so I can have clear glass for the more usual duller British weather. Also, curtain bags - worth it for the kids?

Really excited about the prospect of a new car. I've never had one before, and the more I think about having a Skoda, the more I like the idea. Just get the feeling it's a brand very much on the up, and that those who don't know about the quality, VFM and pace of the vRSs are missing a trick. Skoda now feels like the sensible choice of the petrol head in the know.........

Have had a good look at the forums, which seem excellent, and am really looking forward to getting to know you guys and Skoda!

Cheers, dunc69

welcome to briskoda

Thanks vrsadz!

Welcome.

2 small kids & an Octy vRS - Nice choice.

To try & answer your questions,

1) Race Blue = Nice colour, but it " might " attract some boy racers, to tempt to a bit of race from lights, Silver - Understated, and less likely to attract attention - You Choose :)

Sunset glass, if yo have to pay for it , then Blinds will be cheaper :)

Curtain airbags, Your choice, depends on how you value life - my choice - Yes

Silver is very bland, that's the problem!

Steve, many thanks for your thoughts. Pretty much agree! Visited the dealer with the missus today. Going to go for the silver (as you say, understated) and stick with the black roof rails.

Agree the blue might attract the wrong kind of attention and don't want that with the kids on board!

Also going to stick with normal glass & buy blinds. Have asked the dealer to throw in the curtain airbags to clinch the deal! Fingers crossed.

Hoping to sign on the dotted line on Wed! Can't think about much else.

The missus also test drove a vRS DSG today and loved it. I sat in the back and took in the build quality. So pleased with our choice!

Cheers, Duncan.
