Favorit Boot / Tailgate lock problem

Featured Replies

Hi Folks;

Bit of a problem with my Favorit this morning. I noticed a slightly louder than usual click noise when I turned the key and lock to open the boot. I had that "oh-oh" feeling and so removed everything I immediately needed into the back seat before closing the boot lid down to walk up to work. Glad I did because I thought there might be a problem, and there is. The key turns and locks/appears to unlock the catch, but when you turn the little handle it moves as it should, but it doesn't click and the boot won't release and come up.

Is it a common fault, and how the hell can I fix it? Since I am on a 12 hour shift it won't be getting done today I am guessing. Do I need to replace the whole assembly or perhaps has something just come undone? How can I get into the boot to check it all out?

All help gratefully appreciated. I am guessing the wife won't be too amused the kids buggy, and the shopping won't go in the boot till its fixed!

Cheers

Matt

Whatever you do I guess the rear seats and parcel shelves have to be removed, the boot emptied, and do an unceremonious climb into the boot. The trim panel inside the boot just pops off so give it a good pull. Hopefully it's something simple like the pullrod from the lock barrel to the release mech has been displaced.

You have nothing to worry about,pull the levers in the parcel shelves to drop the rear seats climb into the rear,and pull the trim ,there are 15 or more clips so be gentle,99.9% the plastic clip on the pull rod from the lock barrel is worn so you will need to get it replaced,jorily should have some....

Hiya;

Thanks folks. Took a while because I was just living with it, after climbing in to the boot and flipping off the cover on the lock indeed the pull rod is there but the plastic clip seemed to be broken into several pieces. I've just been avoiding messing about with it since my parents have been ill I haven't had loads of time. However, since my wife has now broken one of the rear door locks when impatiently pulling up on the knob which seemed a bit stuck she's broken the plasitc clip in there too. Phoned Jorily who confirmed having them in stock, paid over the phone and told they'd been in the post tonight! Excellent.

Main problem now is how the heck to get the rear door card off while the rear door is locked, so I can somehow flip the mechanism and unlock it to open the darned door! :(

Any thoughts?

thanks

Matt

If the plastic knob is broken can't you get to the metal rod on which it was screwed with a pair of pliers and pull it up? If they're anything like the front ones, there's easily enough to get hold of.

Alas were it so easy!

Its not the plastic knob at the top which is broken, it is a little white plastic [nylon?] clip at the other end of that metal cranked rod which is down inside the door that breaks off, hence the problem because I can't see where it fits inside the dorr down the little hole. Pain in the bum! Might end up having to cut into the door pad and then source a new bit of trim. But I don't want to do that if I can help it, obviously.

cheers

Ah yes, I see you mean now. Yeah, I think they're nylon, but I've not managed to break one (one I've been exceptionally brutal with some recently) in fact they are usually quite had to get to pop off the metal rods too (hence the brutality).

I don't have a car (got the pickup) so rear seats are a bit of a novelty really, however, if you take out the 'bum' part of the back seat, and removed all the door screws etc, would that not give you sufficient access to remove the door-card?

The whole seat is one unit on the Favorit, and is only clipped in, and is fully removable. Take the rear headrests out, fold the seat up and you should see le slots that they clip into. Be careful though as if its a 1 piecer, its going to be a bit heavy.
