Moving from 1.6FSI to 1.2 or 1.4 TSI?

Featured Replies

Hi to all.

I have a 3 year old octavia 1.6FSI and am thinking of replacing it with a new one.

Does anyone know if the 1.2TSI is a good bet or should I go for the 1.4TSI?

I'm not really after a performance upgrade and do less than 5000 miles a year, with very little motorway drives.

I appreciate only Yeti drivers have experienced the 1.2, so how does the actual performance of the 1.4 compare with the 1.6fsi?

Any thoughts welcome.

Thanks

If performance is not your priority I'd go for the 1.2 - cheaper on road tax, insurance and fuel. Plus it's £500 cheaper so take a nice holiday or raid the options list with the difference :)

I'm sure you'd find both TSI engines significantly better than your old 1.6.

I agree with T81....

BUT the 1.2 only comes in SE level at best, so no Elegance unless you go for the 1.4 - you need to consider just what level of equipment/trim you want as this may dictate the choice.

I have driven the 1.6 petrol in Audi A3 and VW Golf guises on several occasions in the last 5 years and the 1.4TSI (in my current Octavia) is in a different league. If you really don't need a significant performance upgrade and have your eye on economy, test drive the 1.2TSI.
