VRS Remapping

Featured Replies

Hello,

i am looking to get a fabia VRS very soon, a friend of mine owns a car tuning shop and has a contact that can do remapping but before i get it done i wanted to ask a few questions from you VRS owners out there who have remapped it,

firstly was it worth doing?

how did it affect MPG?

have you noticed any adverse affects in the long term?

and finally did you tell the insurance company and if so how did it affect your premium?

Thanks!

firstly was it worth doing? - Yes

how did it affect MPG? - A little less MPG for me but then I do like to use the power

have you noticed any adverse affects in the long term? - Not yet, possible extra smoke here and there under full wellie at higher revs, possible clutch slip two or three times in the last year, more wheelspin if not careful

and finally did you tell the insurance company and if so how did it affect your premium? Yes, about 10% increase for me

Sorry to maybe state the obvious but have you done a search on this topic? there's so many posts about this here that will help you imo. covering all of what you've asked and more!

Getting a remap will affect MPG sometimes for the better depending on the quality of the map. Usually it will go up 2-3mpg or down.

Things to worry about with a remap are clutch and turbo. Clutch can handle upto 300lb/ft and the turbo could be damaged if the map has major spikes in it or if you consistently boot it below 2000rpm (this may be dependent on what the map is producing) you could find it smokes more after the remap also.
