Random Engine, epc and traction lights coming on

Featured Replies

Hello guys.. I've been trawling through the mountain of post on here with regards to Engine lights coming on for no real reason.. EPC and Traction control lights coming on with erratic running.. And not really finding any thing to go on..

So I'll start form the top..

I own an 03 plate vRS.. It's stock other than a Jabba remap.. I've had the car about three months and if I am honest it's been a bit of a sod.. It's been back and forward to the garage where I bought it about 5 times so far.. As luck would have it.. I've got three months warranty so the problems are being slowly investigated..

When I first got that car it kept switching on the engine light.. There being no noticeable difference in the way the car ran just an annoying yellow engine light.. That has been solved by replacing the cat.. But for some unknown reason the same day it went in to have the cat fitted it decided to start running erratically "Hunting, revving to about 3k for a couple of seconds then settling down and hunting again." and switched on both the traction and EPC lights.. Codes were cleared and off I went all happy with a nice smooth running car again..

All was well for about 3 weeks and 1000 miles till it did it again.. Traction light, Epc light and erratic running.. Back I went the dealer, codes were cleared, no real idea of what was causing it.. Advice being that if it happens again they will send it to Skoda for an ecu update..

Now I'm not entirely convinced that this sending my car 30 odd miles away to have the ecu reprogrammed with actually fix the problem with my car.. I can't say I'm a great fan of the idea of loosing my map.. 200+ Brake makes me smile after driving around in my caddy all week.. But if it fixes my car so be it..

I'm just wondering if any of the people on here have had this problem? From the few posts I've found there are.. And how did you solve the problem? I can't say I really want to bail out on her just yet..

Thanks in advance.. Karl

Did they not tell you what the codes were before they cleared them?

hi there mate

did you get this sorted? I'vehad a similar problem since i decided too clean out my throttle body and disconnected it from the electric plug which I shouldn't have done as it then needs a reset (no biggy but unnecessary). I also moved the butterfly which I shouldn't have done but thought nothing much of it. once I put it back together it brought on the ESP light and later whilst driving a largely trouble free 1500 miles to the Czech republic the engine managment came on which i reset twice but caused me no real problems. I took the car to two garages who said that they couldn't reset the throttle body so i must have damaged it somehow. I can't work out how this is possible having done so little, but it may give you something to look at.
