Cost of Modifications on Insurance

Featured Replies

I have just been going through my weekly ritual of applying for insurance quotes on line (no its not for renewal, I'm bored) for every car i can think of.

I have been quoted approx

Try having a 4X4 tuned to the same nominal 230bhp as a vRS then go and tell an insurer you want to insure a car with a 53% hike in power against the vRS's 28% hike! I think that this is where talking to a specialist insurer who knows their business and can negotiate individual terms - as Chris Knott did for me last week - is the order of the day. In an ideal world I would expect such an insurer to quote you the same premium as a 130PD if you mod your 110TDi.

Purely because it's an "aftermarket" thing, rather than manufacturer approved. They don't know where you're buying your remap from, and there are some fairly dubious remappers out there who would make your car a higher risk... ;)

One of the reasons it usually works out best to buy the faster car in the first place, rather than buying the cheaper one and improving it... :(

Would have done so Rob, but the availability of a 2003 130TDI Elegance was out of the question. I had enough trouble trying to find the 110 Elegance.

Not to many on the market yet.
