As I've mentioned before I'm working on a ar PC. My only remaining stumbling block now is the screen.

I want one of these but I'm looking at 340 quid, and the 165mm depth of the unit might be a problem.

So the alternative is to remve the HU and the cubby hole below and build in a screen there The hole in the dash is 190mm x 117mm. A Lilliput screen is 188mm x 125mm and costs about 170 quid from Ebay more info

I don't want to have to cut or modify the dash in any way if I can avoid it, apart from at the back to build a bracket.

So my question is - is there 8mm of space below the cubby hole - or more realistically about 3mm above and 5mm below?

Anyone been in there?? Got any pics?

no i dont think it will fit you deffo dont have space above but dont thikn you will get any below either is pritty tight in there, look for a slightly smaller screen... or how about a Din size pull out screen they got for abou 130 on ebay and you woudl have a double stack hu then screen or viseversa

Perhaps the easiest way to measure the available hole is to remove the outer mesh effect plastic trim, its really easy. Open glovebox and grasp the piece of trim and pull outwards towards you.

Or you could open the ash tray and grasp the piece of trim and pull outwards towards you.

Some of the Audi installs make space by moving the climatronic controls down intothe ash tray space. I was tempted to do this for a full screen embedded approach, but ran out of time/motivation. Ended up with a bracket on the heater vents that I put the screen on when I want to use it.

The fold ut screens can be fiddle with to also provide the power on/off to the pc via a microswith in there bottom That alone is almost motivation enough to get back to the project.

That's what I want - but I want a touch screen :-)

I'll take the trim off this evening and have a rummage - didn't want to try pulling it without knowing where to pull
