Is it possible to transform 1.2 TSI (or future 1.4) engine to LPG?

Featured Replies

I'm a happy owner of a fabia wagon since 2003 on LPG (80000 km on 120000 km total),

Now i'm greatly interest in buying a Yeti but i have a problem about consumption.

Due to the high prices on Italian market of Gasoline (about 1.50 euros) and Diesel (about 1.25 euro), even if I would have 6.6 l/100km the cost on gasoline (6.6*1.50=10 € ) would be almost the double than LPG (8*0.64=5.2).

I'm thinking to wait for the new 1.4 engine to have more kw to ensure sufficient power even with LPG. But I know that TSI engines have problems in been transformed to LPG powered.

Has someone already experienced a LPG system on a Yeti?

Do you think that, maybe in some months, these troubles will be, someway, solved?

Oh dear! I just cant imagine it would be possible to convert a turbo powered petrol engine to LPG. The engine remap needed has probably never been written and there would be little demand for such a remap. Why not consider a diesel engine.

between 1.2 tsi and 2.0 tdi it passes about 5000 euros and for an LPG transformation it takes less than 2000 euros.

i will never save the money with diesel, but in a couple of years, maybe 3, i would cover the LPG transformation costs (about 12000-15000 km per year) B)

I found this page:

it seems that VW Golf TSI engines can be transformed to LPG.

This could assure the transformation for the yeti engine too (at least future 1.4 )

;)

where more or less in the same situation here in the uk as regards petrol costs....now around £1.21 or so... :S

It's true that the diesel will only save around €500-600 a year in fuel costs, but what about the value of the car when you come to sell? Certainly in the UK, used diesels are generally worth more - even though diesel fuel is no cheaper than petrol here.

Interesting that the price difference between diesel and petrol Yetis is so much in Italy - here, the 2.0 110CR is only about €1500 more than the 1.2 TSI. Maybe you should buy one in the UK and export it!

I don't know about the possible conversion of the TSI to LPG, but you should not ignore that there is less energy per kg of LPG than there is in either diesel or petrol. Engine output will be reduced some. I looked at it in a carburetted car during the 1973 oil crisis, and the result would have been 20% less torque and HP.

I was just going to say what Agerbundsen has posted.

Losing 20% of the available power off of a fairly tiny engine would probably make the Yeti a very sluggish beast, even if it is technically possible.

New GPL engines loose less than 5% in power.

for example

i'm loving yeti for its interiors its paces its style.

i think i could still love it with 5% power less and 400-500 euros a year more

:D

WOW I am impressed; any idea of the cost and if it is available in the UK??
