What special engine oil should I use for a Felicia.

Featured Replies

I made a mistake recently by not putting the expensive special antifreeze in my car, so had to drain it all out and start again with the GL12 stuff.

I want to change the engine oil now, so first thought I had better check if there was a special VW group oil that I should use in case I accidently put in common or garden Castrol. :giggle:

castrol R40......

or just about anything really as long as its oily

So halfords 10/40 semi synth would be OK, only I noticed Halfords also sell a special VW oil, which is another reason why I was asking.

Then again, Halfords would try to sell you a special weekends only oil if you listened to them :giggle:

Any oil that is 10/40. The 1.3 engine was developed in the days of simple mending and does not need fancy stuff.

I also use any good antifreeze and over the last ten years have seen no problems with my car. ( owned since new in 2000).

What engines like is regular oil changes and new filters.

These engines should do intergalactic miles before conking.

That's good then, same oil as my Scenic so i don't have to have 2 lots hanging around the shed.

The 1.3 is a SKODA engine. VW had nothing to do with it.

Having said that; I use the £10 stuff from Lidl in my son's Felly and my Toyota with good results.

I know that, but the GL12 is specified by VAG, so thought the oil might be too.

It is a 1960's tech engine, so dont go putting hi tech oils in it; it wont cope well.

Bog standard 10/15-40w; you can buy the VAG oils, but dont expect to see any difference in how the engine performs.

Define "High Tech" oil.

Fully synthetic, for high performance engines, etc. These engines were designed to run on SOVIET oils, so anything better than chip fat!!!!

So DON'T put a 5-40w in it.

The stuff from Lidl is a 15-40W that complies with VW 505 00 MTU and costs about a tenner for 5 litres.

I won't go too cheap, but no need to buy expensive branded stuff either. The oil isn't too bad in there, but I have no idea how long it's been there and the filter looks a bit long in the tooth too.

I always change the filter when I change the oil, otherwise any cr@p in it will just contaminate the fresh oil.

My son reported no overheating issues after we swapped out the oil the Skoda dealer used for Lidl 15-40w. (Serviced from new by Skoda).

From my experience having serviced my two felicias 1.3 (One with the low copression 135 engine and the other with the higher compression 136M engine), i have been using castrol GTX 20W50 mineral based for 5 years and the cars are running well with no problems. I change oil every 5000kms or 3000miles. I tried once liqui moly semi 10W40 but there are no real advantages in terms of engine performance or noise or fuel consumption.

My advice, use any good brand 10W40

I use GTX 20W50 because it is cheaper and because i live in Jordan where the temperatures are always higher than europe for most of the year and we rearely have extreme low temperatures.

Hope all is fine.
