Engine "Dress Up"

Featured Replies

Sitting here on a wet Sunday morning wondering if anybody has any ideas for making the engine bay look slightly better?

In the past on other vehicles I've used Samcio hoses and managed to have nice alloy induction tubing fabricated but nobody seems to do anything for the Octy 170 CR! I was considering having the engine cover sprayed a nice two pack red as a starter but wondered if there was a nice induction system made for the CR or perhaps if Foege make some nice polished bits that would fit.

Wish somebody would do a nice polished strut brace although I understand that the design of the chassis means it wouldn't do very much on the Octy.....

Also, I'm not a diesel engineer but can somebody please explain why you can't use a dump valve with a diesel? Just curious really rather than any real wish to make the car go "PTHOOOSH"!!!!!!! :-)

LOL 73 views and no responses!! Obviously its something I'm gonna have to figure out for myself then! emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

get loads of that 12v led string you can buy for blinged out computer cases and drape it all over the engine bay :) In fact .... cut a big hole in your bonnet and put a plexiglass window in to show off your led blingness. or how about getting everything chromed too .... that would look ace, and not even slightly chavvy or tack-tastic :)

a dump valve on a diesel???????? why would you want that

diesels have the sound of a tractor anyway(queue abuse :giggle: ) and then you want to go and stick on a dump valve to imitate the air brakes on a tractor.

All you will end up doing is making a good motor a crap one if you head that route.

It was a simple question and as you can see I stated I was merely curious as to why you can't use a dump valve - I remember reading that there is a technical reason involved. I was not necessarily asking for a discussion on the pros and cons of an oil burner emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Wardth, I sympathise with your plight so let me try and give you a few ideas. On a previous car I owned (Peuget 309 GTi, Mi 16v conversion) I had quite a bit of engine bay dressing up done in conjunction with the performance mods, for example:

Before the new engine went in, it was stripped and painted in heat resistant silver paint, the rocker cover was also sprayed in Miami blue, all visible pipework was either replaced with or covered with braided hoses with anodised blue or silver couplings. Coolant pipes were replaced with samco hoses and the intake system was upgraded with polished s/steel pipes. New catch tanks were fabricated from s/steel to replace the washer, power steering and radiator bottles. Any sundries that were exposed such as the battery and fuse box were simply covered with sheets of polished s/steel. Hydrolic struts were installed as the bonnet was fitted with a Clio 16v bulge making it heavier, the intergral vent on this addition was fitted with a one off s/steel duct to direct airflo to the intake system. Finally a blue led strip light was fitted to underside of the bonnet which activated when the bonnet was opened.

Now the cost, including the performance mods which increased the standard power from 150 bhp to 223 bhp (proven) I spent in the region of £3000, baring in mind this project was completed in1997 when it was centre page feature in Fast Car magazine, that is quite expensive, but hey ho, I was young and rich....

On a serious note, I plan to dress up my engine bay a wee bit, but certainly not bling!! The addition of an Evoms intake and engine cover has changed the appearance for the better.
