Erratic idling and power cutting in and out when driving - VRS

Featured Replies

Ive had my car a whole week and ive now got this problem!

Once the car is warm on idle the revs go up and down like a yoyo and when driving along the rev will drop up and I will lose power then cut back in again.

Im hopefully having the car VAG-COM'd on Thursday night but is there anything obviously to look for?

Faulty thermostat or coolant temperature sensor

You should see the fault code 17704 I think

Cool thank you, I will confirm with vagcom tomorrow!

could also be VAC leak on intake side, check the Y shaped pipe that comes off the top of the rocker cover (you will need to remove the plastic engine cover) the pipe that goes down to the crank breather off the bottom of the Y shaped Pipe and there is also a small pipe that joins to the crank breather one that also goes up to the inlet manifold

My original thought was maf and this kind of confirmed it!

16486 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal too Low

P0102 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

I also found a dodgy bit of pipe which I will replace first then it looks like a new maf!

sorry the scan wasn't a full scan - stupid cheap cable...
