Cold and disappointed

Featured Replies

I am very disappointed with air conditioning and heat in the car. I have run 1600 km with my Yeti 170 4x4 TDI in temperatures between -1C to +18 C. Sometimes the rain, sometimes sunny weather. No matter how I set the controls or if I use auto, it feels cold on my feet and legs. I've driven the Octavia VRS in three years and never experienced anything like it. Someone who has similar problems.

(sorry in swenglish)

I have found the opposite. Compared to my old XT the settings are warmer. Even during last winter (-2C on the outside thermometer) the car proved very comfortable. My only comment was that the 140TDI took some miles before it reached temperature.

Hi Helgestahill,

yes I've noticed on the coldest of days a draft around the ankle area, put it down to cool air being drawn from the rear of the cabin under the raised seat. With a much lower conventional seat position there's less chance of this happening.

Regards,

TP

Reading reviews this does seem to be an affliction of our snowmonsters, Which? magazine were quite scathing regarding the heating/ventilation, they were testing a 'S' level trim diesel. I wonder if the longer warm-up time of the oil burning engines has a negative effect. My petrol one warms up very quickly and I was surprised when I read the Which? article. :'(

If you have the optional Sound System with amp under seat you could get som heat from that emoticon-0140-rofl.gif. Be careful with your ears then emoticon-0136-giggle.gif .

I to have noticed it a little problematic to get a comfortable heat both at floor and head level simultanusly. Either comfy up and a bit cold down or comfy at feet and to hot at headlevel.

Interesting to see how this goes when summer arrives (if).

Exactly

Find my petrol Yeti warms very quickly, pleased about that. My Octavia diesel used to take an age!

Have to say I find the Yeti perfect with regard to head / feet temperature balance. I have found that VAG group cars I've owned in the past seem to have a warm feet, cool head bias. :S

There are a few bits to the Which? test which make me wonder what they were actually testing.

They complain about cramped rear legroom, rear seats that are set too low, cabin width that's a bit cramped, rear access that requires a "big step up" and for visibility they say the "rear view is impaired by the high-set tailgate window"!

And as for the cars they compare it with - Tiguan (fair enough), BMW X3 (er?) and a Mazda CX-7 (w.t.f?).

At least they are predicting strong risiduals for the Yeti

Not exactly, but I wonder where the temperature sensor is located? is it the black covered bit in the center of the dashboard? it seems to me that sunshine changes the temperature to colder, telling me the sun shines on the sensor.

You can divert more of the air to the foot area with the buttons on the A/C system, getting your feet nice and cosy. like many, I like that, but prefer a cool breeze above, and I have not quite figured that one out yet.

In the Octy, the system sent more cold air to the face vents when the A/C was on.

Its the little black "bubble" above the fan switch and below the air direction buttons.

I'm a bit miffed that the diesel Yetis do not come standard with a Webasto heater. All diesel A2s have this (but alas sans the remote start of the heater). So at temperatures below 5 degrees the Webasto kicks in to produce heat since a diesel engine is too effecient with its fuel and produces less heat than a wasteful petrol engine. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif . It is funny in the winter with the A2 when you are scraping ice of the windscreen to see steam coming from the rear exhaust, the front exhaust from the Webasto (it is diesel powered) and steam coming from both the rear view mirrors!

Personally, I haven't any problems with my heating/ventilation system. The hot air comes through much quicker than with the PD130 motor in my Fabia. I am spoilt with the heated seats but even with them off, I'm perfectly comfortable. I do like to err on the side of warmness (something to do with working in cold hangars) but I'm very pleased with the capabilities of the system and the controls. Same applies when it has been warm, I seem to manage a nice atmosphere! emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Hope when you mean "i seem to manage a nice atmosphere" you dont mean you have a lot of wind ?? emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif
