L.E.D lights?

Featured Replies

Hi all. Im just wondering, does the FL Octavias LED lights stay on when the main hedlight is on?. I am waiting for mine to be delivered and i just wondered.

Also if anyone could post me some pics of the LED's lit that would be cool

Yes they stay on although they dim significantly in both sidelight and dipped modes.

Sorry no picture. I'll take a few tomorrow night if nobody beats me to it.

Cheers mate

Whilst on the subject.

Anyone know if they can be made NOT TO dim when the lights are on?

It's part of the legal requirement that they do.

Some Audi and Merc DRL dont dim though

Ok, as promised, here's some pictures. Click on the thumpnails for the originals. I don't have the automatic lights (and don't really miss them from my last car, although I do miss the auto wipers, but that's another story) so this is what my light switch looks like:

So, in the order that they turn on with the switch..

In the off position, daylight running lights only. The LED lights are seriously bright to the point that I've had a few people flash me, I'm sure this will reduce in frequency as DRL become more commonplace.

In the sidelight position, this simply dims the LED lights, they're still quite bright though.

In the dipped position, the LED lights stay at the same brightness as in sidelight mode and the H7 bulbs also illuminate. I've got Philips 80% Extreme in now, I found the originals to be quite poor.

Still waiting for the new car but planning to fit the Philips extreme +80%. Are they really easy to fit? ie don't have to take half the car to pieces to change them.

I followed this guide, took about 30 minutes to change both bulbs, even with the headlight units initially proving a bit reluctant to come out.

So, forgive my ignorance, but do you have standard sidelights next to the headlights as well on the FL? When you put the switch into sidelight position, do the LED DRLs just dim, and nothing else, or do the DRLs dim and sidelights come on as well??????

My 2010 VRS has no sidelight bulbs at all, turning on the 'sidelights' simply dims the LED lights, nothing else.

Also, a question that someone has asked me-- is there an option in VAGCOM on the FL to disable the LED DRLs and select Scandanavian mode (dipped beam, side and tail lights) or North American mode instead. In other words, have you still got the same DRL options that the preFL cars have, as well as the new LED option?

I believe you can disable the DRL LEDs but I've no idea about the other modes.

If you have Maxidot you can diasble the LED DRLs but they still come on at "half brightness" as sidelights

omahn, Cheers for the pics, looks very nice. I didnt realise they had no side lights and that the LEDS dimmed.

Cheers.

As your car is pre-FL, then yes. Scandanavian mode DRLs can be selected through VAGCOM -- this gives you side, tail and dipped headlights on whenever the ignition is on. My 54 plate has been running on Scandanavian DRLs for 18 months now, and I absolutely love them!

But you can't just have the front side lights on as DRL's, you have to have the rear position and dipped beam as well?
