Fabia Greenline 2009

Featured Replies

In October 2009 bought new Skoda Fabia Greenline car. The radio fitted is a standard 'Dance' model, which I have had trouble with ever since.

The symptons are as follows:-

problems occur when traffic report (TP) button is activated. Interruptions occur from other channels such as Radio 1, Radio 3, Radio 4, TRAFFIC is displayed on screen, channel is changed, but none of these sources run traffic reports. In addition, interruptions occur, only for a second, BUT the channel does not change. Finally, when the channel does change, there is a distortion in the speech, like a person lisping.

I have had the obvious done by my Skoda main dealer, and that is the radio has been replaced, unfortunately the problem carries on. Also the problems don't just occur in our local region, it also occurs travelling away from our area.

Any thoughts please, I can't believe I am the only one in the country with this problem.

I have the same car. I don't use TP that much to be honest but at the weekend heading up to London I did have it on just to get some idea of how challenging the M25 would be to get along. I found Radio 1 would cut in on TP but have no traffic. As I've understood it over the years the TP signal is sent by the transmitting radio station so if they are messing around or forget to activate it or deactivate it then that's the problem, I rarely used it on the old Peugeots as it was much the same issue. I've not had issues with the sound quality of TP. What is your TP volume level set to? Never looked perhaps there are also treble/bass settings on the TP too, just a thought.

Bowran, I doubt there is anything wrong with your set. It is much more likely the TP settings need tweaking. As the previous poster says, the volume may need to be looked at. Also, what is the overall sound/signal like on normal stations...excluding the TP? I have found poor connection and earthing of a car's antenna can mess up TP but sometimes only slightly afffects the normal reception.

I had a quick play with my TP settings when out this morning. What I noticed is that the TP automatically adjusts the fader. For example, set the normal volume to 20 - then go in to the level 3 audio and set the TP Volume to 20 too, then go in and out of the TP volume setting and you'll notice the sound is focused on the front windscreen pillar speakers when in TP. You could therefore have a faulty speaker in the windscreen pillar only noticed when not drowned out by the door/bass speakers.

Tried tp, was more a pain then a gain, turned it back of! I dont think it was faulty, though, just annoying to cut in, spesh without traffic news... i had similar on a car many moons ago, sometimes it came on quite a few mins PRIOR to the alet, so that may be a factor.
