55 Plate vRS + MFD2 = CAN Gateway upgrade required?

Featured Replies

I guarantee that this has been answered previously somewhere, but I'm damned if I can find it.

I'm looking at upgrading the Stream HU in my vRS (55 Plate) and I wanted to check that, unlike fitting a Bolero / Columbus, there wasn't any requirement for a CAN gateway upgrade to workaround the battery drain issue. I realise I still need to recode with a VAGCom unit, but my decision on whether to go with the MFD2 rests on no extra cost for a CAN upgrade.

Any thoughts?

No need for a CAN upgrade with MFD2. No need for a CAN upgrade with MFD3 either so long as it has an older firmware like 1004 or 1024. It was only 2664 where the battery discharge problem started. MFD3 is MUCH nicer than MFD2.

It may well be nicer, but as my primary reason for getting it is actually an upgrade for the radio / amplifier, the nice bits (i.e. SatNav) are merely a bonus. Unless you're telling me the sound quality through factory standard speakers on the Columbus is worth an additional £300? :)

Oh and, thank you for the answer by the way. :)

You know I have one for sale? ;)

Ahh, every days a school day :-)

I might have an old FW, how do I check it ? I'm guessing with the means of Vag-Com/VCDS ?

Thanks..

How can you find out the firmware?

Yes, I asked in your thread but as I got no response I assumed someone had nabbed it already.

Still available?

My apologies, I have so much to keep up with on here that I must have missed it. Yep, it's still available
