SMS interfaces

Featured Replies

Who knows anything about interfaces to SMS (text messages)? Specifically, how to receive incoming messages and forward them to another medium (could be email or similar). There are quite a few services for outgoing messages but I'm struggling to find an incoming one. They must exist - what about all those "text your answer to 80992" competitions, etc.

Would a dialogue be possible? What products / services are there out there already?

This is for a commercial application, so freebie services won't be appropriate this time, although they might be fun to play with.

Thanks

Will ask SWMBO as she has dealt with this type of thing in her last job.

One of the projects I work on (you know which one... ;) ) uses WapMX stuff, and it seems pretty good, though admittedly I don't get much involved in that aspect...

Spindrift may know something about this as well with his mobile apps development

Tell him you were recommended by me from DA Systems :)

The software is called Drop-it and goes on a machine at your place - buy SMS msgs from the company (any providor you like - they have lines into them all) and you send as many as you like. You can also receive back in which is in turn sent back to the drop-it software!

If you want to go DIY, have a look for a 'Falcom GSM modem' or simply connect an old phone to a pc/server. Use Kannel [free] or WapMX etc.

Lycos used to allow reception of SMS, but I'm not sure if it was onbly in response to the ones you sent out from them (used to be free).
